Make sure that you have a voice file that matches your rockbox version, on this page, the latest voice files are from March 7 http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/VoiceFiles#Voice_files_for_daily_builds_cur
They should work ok with a current build of rockbox.
Whenever you update rockbox on the player it is a good idea to check for new voice files, new ones usually gets made whenever any major change is done to the englsih.lang file

thank you for suggestion.
The problem is that when I open to the explorer page it announces only the e following
database: "12 hour clock x"
playlist "Conrast x"
plugins "shuffle x"
System "play selected file first x"
If I open Files it announces Zee 1 x etc
until the final 4 items then "y x"

Maybe I should re install with fingers crossed, especially as I boasted that she ( my wife) would at last have an mp3 player she could use.

Have you checked that your voice file matches the version of rockbox you use? It does still sound like an out of sync voice file to me.

I am also having trouble with the Iaudio x5 and voice.

I have installed the latest version of rockbox today and also got one of the latest voices, English Reed from the 7th of March.  It did not read the menus at all.  So I went back to the orriginal voice I had which was english reed.cvs this from the 29th of August.  This appeared to read some menu items but not all.  So I have just tried english vw paul also from the 7th of March.  It is now back to not reading any menu items at all.

Please help as otherwise I am going to have to try and find an old version of rockbox back on the old menu structure but at least I know it works.
