iriver H100 charging circuit fried

I was trying to convince my friend to try Rockbox on his H100 series.  He then told me that he had fried the charging circuit by using a car charger that didn't meet the requirements.  It now restarts every 30 seconds when plugged in.  

Anyone know where he could get something to replace the burned chip, or what he could do to repair it?
