TagCache: Playing in wrong order and wrong tracks.

Having problems with TagCache.

When i go through 'Artists' then select a song from an album, it often plays another song from that album. If i go back and do it again it will play another song from that album.

To make things worse, if i skip through congs in that album, a track plays that is not in the album (in this case i can be listening to any song, but when i skip songs it keeps playing a song by Muse).

Something is wrong but i can't figure out what. It is always the same song that randomly plays.

Ive tried deleting the tagcache files and re-initialising, but to no avail.

Save your settings as a .cfg file (Manage Settings --> Write .cfg file) and then reset settings to their defaults (Manage settings --> Reset settings).  Report back on what happens.

It still does it. Ive tried playing song from different artists, but it still wants to play this one Muse song first. I like this artist, but dont want to hear it everytime i play a song!

Yes, I was going to put this in Bug Reports, but I noticed forums you get better and faster response.  That, and I didn't know exactly how to word this bug.

It seems the things two days ago are fault for this.  It's either:

1.) Updated to work with latest version of tagcache

2.) Only maintain the last insert position after the playlist has started. Fixes B#6004.

3.) Always set random seed before inserting tracks shuffled. Fixes problem with shuffle always being the same when inserting immediately after startup.

I think it's the last one, but...I can't say for sure.  Sad that all these really good changes have been made in the meantime, but I can't enjoy them because I can't choose what song I want to listen from!

I highly doubt the last change caused the problem that's described but, if you could provide detailed steps on how to reproduce the problem, I will investigate.  I'd also recommend opening up a bug report so that this can be tracked.

Tis simple:

Initiate tag Cache.

Reboot iPod (iPod 5G is what I have).

Go into Tag Cache.

Choose any song other than the first and/or last.

The song starting to play will be another random song besides the one you chose, as well as the song coming up next will not be in order.

Thanks for the information -- the problem was caused by the 2nd change you listed.  This should be fixed in the latest CVS build, please let me know if it still happens.

...There seems to be a new problem relating to this.  Gapless does not work anymore.  There is a slight pause between songs now...

I can't think of anything with the recent playlist changes that would affect gapless playback.  I'd recommend opening a bug on this, it might be related to the threading and/or playback changes that were made in the last couple of days.

I've got this problem with my 4G greyscale too, just wondering what's going on? It's not fixed after I updated it with the latest CVS build, hope I can get some help. The entire order is messed up, doesn't follow the ID3 album order. Cheers!

I can't reproduce this problem on the latest CVS build.  What are you trying to play and how are you creating your initial playlist?

After moving to the lastest CVS build to see if tagcache was in the correct order, mine crashes with "I40: PDIRFULL" when I try to initialize the database.  I had this with a couple other builds, too.

have you tried increasing the dir / files limits? Remember to reboot after changing those settings.

They're both set much larger than anything I have, same error, around 900 files into the initialization (looking at the tagcache info in the Debug menu).  The actual error is "I40:PDIR1FULL at 00000001"

Another thread was mentioning tagcache screwing up on mp3 files with corrupt headers, but tagcache hasn't had this problem in other builds (I HAVE had this problem before, though, on a separate build).  Same set of files and everything.
