Help. Dead iriver!!!!! DEAD!!!
« on: August 18, 2006, 10:44:29 PM »
Today  I tried to turn on my h140 and... nothing...no screen no welcome.. nothing... I plugged it and nothing... I left it plugged for about 30 mins and when I tried to turn it on, again nothing... and even more frightening, it was very HOT....  HAs anything like this happened to anybody? If so, how did you solve the terrible problem? Is there a solution or I will have to resign any hope... Please, anybody, answer me...

When you say, plugged it in, are you talking about usb or AC adaptor?

I would try plugging into the AC adaptor for a while.

Open it up, see how things are looking inside. Maybe the battery has swollen or just took it's last breath for air (ummm died  ::))
Anyways could be that it just got too much current and something got fried.. compare your board to a working one.

I just wanted to open a new thread addressing the same problem. I was running Rockbox for only 2 days and was experiencing a lot of system crashes that could be solved by pressing the reset button. Yesterday, when the battery was going low the player simply shut off and would not turn on anymore. At first I thought that the battery was completely drained, however, recharging it did not solve the problem. It does not respond to any input anymore, there is no text on the screen, no hard drive activity - nothing. I also found the player to be quite hot after recharging it. As soon as I return home from my holiday on Monday I will open it to see if there is any visible interior damage. If anybody has any further suggestions I would really appreciate any help!

Sorry if my post was against the forum rules. I am not sure if it is a hardware or a software (Rockbox) related problem. Just trying to see if anybody had some advice on how to fix it.

Hello Dermeister... I have the exact same problem that you have... and I have even began thinking about buying a a new player.... I think my h140 is dead now...  Please let me know if you found a solution to our problem... I've tried pluging it, resetting it... and nothing... I opened it to check if there were some wires loose or something..but again, nothing...

can we exchange emails through this forums? To share what we are doing more personnally...

interesting.
Have just purchased a brand new H120 for a Blind friend.

Is now set up with Rockbox  with all voice options enabled.
I cycled it by playing it till battery got low.
************There seems to be no auto-switch off for the software.
Power on had zero effect until I recharged the battery.

Thus I think it is possible an older battery gets Killed on playing till low voltage.

I fail to see why it would not start on Mains though

Hello... I took my bricked iriver h140 to the technician and he told me I needed something called LTNP, that was burned.... But I am in Medellin, Colombia and this type of technology hasn't arrived yet.   If any of you have the possibility of finding it at your place, Please let me know and we can talk to see how you can send it to me.  (Of course I would pay for everything)
Any help would be very much appreciated.

This is a picture of the part I am looking for... It's a little thing called LTNP... in the picture you'll find it diagonally up to the right of the red wire, that comes out of the green battery.

If you can fin it, pleae let me know.

THANKS a LOT

Unless you have really good soldering skills, it would probably be much easier for you to get a broken player and to replace the entire circuit board, rather than trying to replace that chip.
