HIFI Walker RockboxUtility Crashing
« on: February 21, 2025, 09:43:33 PM »
I'd appreciate it if ya'll spare a moment to humor a clueless dude in his struggle to get Rockbox on his Hifi Walker H2 (V2.0).

I'm doing my best to follow the instructions. I extracted the RockboxUtility-v1.5.1 file into the SD card. I tried both the daily build and development versions. When I hit the "install" button, it gives me a popup titled "prerequisites" and instructs me to "provide the correct version of the original firmware file." When I hit "ok" and select the bootloader update "erosqnative-hw4-erosq_2024," the RockBox utility just crashes and the window disappears.

I also attempted the manual method in the instructions, but the when I went to select "update firmware" on the device it just said "no upgrade file found."

I reformatted the SD card using the system restore menu, so that shouldn't be the issue. This is 1000% not my area of expertise so I'd be grateful for a wiser set of eyes to sanity check what's going on here.

Not familiar with that port specifically, but your screenshot says the firmware you're giving it to patch is a PDF file.  Probably you clicked the wrong download.

I suggest you read the documentation *before* starting.

Under properties the "erosqnative-hw4-erosq_2024" shows that it is an "Adobe Acrobat Document (.upt)." This is how it downloaded from the instruction page for the V2.0 of the device. Do I need to find a different way to download it in a different format? This is just how it defaults for the .upt file.

Thank!

Also, yes I thoroughly read the instructions several times trying to figure this out last night. I'm working with very little programming knowledge. I'm looking to get the insight to fill my blinds spots in this process. For instance, the instructions say that I rename the bootloader exactly "update.upt." I took it literally and renamed the file that verbatim. That did not work either and I tried it without renaming it as well. The RockboxUtility crashed at the same point.

likely you have known file extensions hidden in windows settings and that is causing issues renaming, you will need to 'unblock' the file too

Bilgus,

Thank you for your reply. Could you please point me in the right direction to see how I can fix those issues? I'm not familiar with those settings and google isn't being terribly helpful. Thank you for taking the time.
