Are all pathnames in Rockbox now going to include the volume ID info prefix at the front end of the path?  If so, will it consistently be specifically 7 chars in length (as in "/<HDD0>")?

I ask because this also has implications for tracks that have very long pathnames in a music library's directory tree.  Libraries that have been carefully managed to stay with the MAX_PATH limit of 260 will now be losing the use of some of that 260 MAX_PATH limit due to the volume ID prefix.

For more about this please see the Forum discussion at https://forums.rockbox.org/index.php/topic,54842.0.html - "An album that plays from the DB but not from the File Browser".

Thanks.

I just now installed the latest dev build, tried out the new player name configuration setting, and got it working on my first try.  This is tremendous!  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I'm thinking we get rid of the string ids in this stuff and just show <0> <1> instead of <HDD0> and <MICROSD1>

Please don't bend over backwards or in any way hobble Rockbox functionality to accommodate my prior stated concerns re long pathnames to track files or the aesthetics of the visual appearance of pathname strings in the text_viewer plugin.  I am extremely pleased to have the new player name config setting.  As well, I have learned how to scan my iPod's music library for the longest pathnames and though the current longest one is (a totally absurd) 247 chars in length, it is within the margin of safety for exceeding the MAX_PATH limit of 260.  It's my responsibility to limit the paths of additional tracks added to my library in the future.  And finally, picky users like me can always turn off the 'Show Header' setting in the text_viewer plugin's Viewer Options and/or Global Settings.

That's great - thanks very much - I can't wait to try it.  But I don't know how to make use of a patch as I don't have a development environment with which to build from source code.

Thanks so much for making those two builds for me.  Tonight I hope to try out their new patch for accessing text files and will post my feedback as soon as I do.
