How do I go about creating a very simple theme?
« on: July 14, 2023, 09:58:54 PM »
I have a Hifiwalker H2 and I really just like the Rockbox failsafe configuration. I have built my own themes before by modifying pre-existing ones and cobbling bits and pieces together.

But I can't do that with the failsafe theme because there's no "theme" to edit, or so the message in the folder says when I try to open it on my PC.

Below is my starting point. It's great as is, but I'd love for the track indicator to say "track 6 of 10" and for there to be indicators for battery, play/pause and a volume counter at the bottom, but ones that are nicer than the default status bar.

And it would also be great if the peak meter bars were segmented. Is that possible? Sorry I feel like I'm way in over my head here. It's been at least 5-6 years since I did anything with Rockbox other than just using it to listen to music.

This is pretty much my bible whenever I'm creating themes, it covers every theme tag, how to use them etc. If you get stuck, it's always worth looking at other themes to see how they acheived what you're looking to do. Interpod by chris_s on the iPod Video is a great theme to use for this, Chris did a great job labelling everything and it's probably the best theme to learn from.

I would look for a theme that closest matches what you are trying to achieve and modify that.
There is a theme called "poanyc_blue" in the section for AIGO EROS Q / K themes which looks like it would fit the bill.
I would use a simulator to test since it is quicker that keep uploading to the player and keep backups as you progress making
changes along the way.

Rockboxed Daps:-
Pinephone (RaaA), Benjie T6, Sony NWZ-E384 (dead battery), Samsung YP-R0 (the best rockbox player), Creative Zen X -Fi, Sansa clip+, Sansa Fuze+ x2 (good for rockbox games) , Creative Zen X-Fi2 , Unbranded Rk27xx Dap (I need to fix the buttons)

Yep, that one proved to be a good place to start!

 ;D

I like it. It's very no-nonsense and looks kinda old school high-end which I guess is what I was going for.
