Receive error message "PLease remove external battery pack" When turning off h34
« on: July 24, 2006, 11:17:58 AM »
helo !

When I try to turn off the h340. The screen freezes displaying the message "Please remove external battery pack". If I use reset it will turn off when this message is displayed. When in use the player thinks that it is charging even when no power supply is connected in spite of this the player functions, charges and transfers files when required and only produces an error on shutdown.

I think that the problem might have been caused because the USB port was connected inverted to the motherboard and hence the polarity of the power suppply was inverted. If this indeed caused the problem can anyone think of a solution. Are some of the internals damaged? If so could I repair them myself.

I know there have been threads on similar topics before but if anyone has any ideas, suggestions, or solutions could you please repond. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I chearsh the firth chip after the USB power... I think, there is the Microsemi LX2201, Philips PCF50606HN/03A/N1Y or Philips TEA1211 DC/DC Converter, but i m not shure.

thanks.

Have a look at this FAQ on the MisticRiver boards.

It's not rockbox specific but it's the same problem.

yes i have already seen that FAQ, and i think is not a permanent solution. Is there a way to solve this problem internally i.e. an internal connection that performs the same electrical function as the cable change you make using this solution so that the problem is permanently solved without having to reuse the cable method mentioned in the FAQ.

I think the problem is not software but is hardware.

I posted here because i think that somebody here might understand how the USB charging circuit works.

A permanent internal fix of this type isn't advisable. The fix shorts the battery and you'd end up with a dead unit every time you tried to switch it on or it would only last a few hours straight from the wall.

The trimmed and wired USB jack is the easiest way to deal with it. Plug it into the port when you wanna use the player and keep a pin handy to shutdown.

I would presume the real fix would be to solder in a new USB or charging circuit.

The USB chip is the least understood piece of the H300s right now so if you do find anything out make sure to share! :)
