iPod classic 6th Gen LBA28 how to exceed 128gb limit?
« on: May 12, 2018, 11:24:16 AM »
I have an iPod classic 6th generation (80gb version). I've upgraded to an iFlash quad.

I'm trying to use more than 128gb worth of memory with both dual boot default iPod OS and rockbox, does anyone know how I can do this?

I don't think that is possible.

You probably don't want more than 128GB anyway since those adapters don't work well with rockbox.

So with dualboot I'm stuck with 128gb? But if I only boot rockbox I can exceed 128gb?

You can try, but it probably won't work well.

An other option besides iFlash adapters: As far as I know, the 128GB iTunes limit doesn't apply to the 160GB harddrive with a CE-ATA interface. You will need a suitable ribbon cable and a thick backplate for this.

You'll have problems syncing if you only boot rockbox.

Essentially that particular logic board can't usefully be used with a larger drive (other than the dual-platter CE-ATA160gb the 6th gen originally came with, as cereal_killer says)

One reason I opted for flash memory is the faster speeds and significantly lower battery consumption. Not to mention with the flash adapter, I can maintain the same slim profile with a larger battery

Ahh, that sucks.

Oh well. With rockbox should I expect better sound quality using the same source files?
