I'm pretty sure this question goes here. I think.
I'm interested in replacing my ageing 16GB Sony Walkman NWZ-S545 that has been my trusty mp3 player and ALARM CLOCK for many years. I use the alarm with external speakers although the built in speakers in the player are handy if I'm not sleeping at home. (Not required though) I hear Rockbox has the "rare" wake up alarm function that I am looking for. (The kind that doesn't drain your device to death like it does on my [useless] Cowon Z2).
I was looking at the supported device list but I can't really tell what I should get.. It seems like a lot of stuff is older too which means it wont be as efficient(?).
I need a micro SDHC slot but would REALLY like a micro SDXC slot. 16GB(14.7) is just too small.
I've owned the Sansa Fuse+ and Clip Zip but the Zip is too small and the Fuse+ has obnoxious touch controls. I lost them both anyway..
Battery life is also a large factor. My Sony was rated for 42 hours playback I think. I only have to charge it once a week or sometimes even less. Though it gets around 10 hours 320Kbps MP3 playback @ full volume to external speakers. Anything more than 10-15 hours is an upgrade.
Most importantly, I am an audiophile and I want to use FLAC and OGG Vorbis on the go but even if my Sony supported those it doesn't sound nearly as good as my stock motherboard audio (working on that). I use V-Moda Crossfade LP over ear headphones
and I want to be able to make the most of them.
Even if this is only enough information to narrow it down to a smaller list of devices to check out that's ok. I just need somewhere to start. Thank you.
