Sansa Fuze V2 Bricked?
« on: June 05, 2010, 06:22:37 PM »
Hello all :)

I've been using rockbox on my sansa fuze (V2) for about a week or so now without any problems. Everything's been working fine.

Unfortunatly while rockbox was running I plugged the sansa's USB cable (which was plugged into my linux PC)  and the screen blanked out. I canot get the fuze to switch back on again x.x .

I've tried holding the reset button in the up position for 30 seconds and 15 seconds and nothing happens. The PC won't recognise that there's even a device connected.

Is the Fuze dead?

thanks

I don't know much about the construction of this player.  You might try removing the battery if you can't get it to reset and if it's accessible.

Is there any mention of it from "dmesg" when you plug it in?

Nope, no output from dmesg. No life there at all.

One thing I did read elswhere is that this player can look like it is dead when (in theroy at least) it has locked up hars. I also read (as the batteries aen´t easy to get out) that depending on what the player was doing when it went wrong the battery could take from a few days to weeks to run down.

The fuze (v2) looks like a nightmare to open up. I'm guessing it is just clipped together there are no screws to remove.

IRight now I can't be 100% sure either way that the player is either RIP or just locked up hard. Best I could do was to take a small frequency counter and see if anythng was coming out of the fuze which it was when I had the counter close to it.

II may just need to wait or it might be totally dead.

It's certainly possible.  I would wait a few days, connect it to a charger and see if it will boot.

hey, I had the same issue with my fuze v1,

You need to force reboot it!

hold the power swich for 90+ seconds;

btw; your battery has some powe left in it right????

(I had to hold the power swich for like 105 sec, and it booted fine;
had no issues since)

Thanks for the info.  That's considerably longer than the PP-based Sansas.

Had the same problem. It took 3 days to fully discharge. Sorry.
If you want to know if it still has juice, just plug headphones and if you hear a clic it still has juice.

The fuze (v2) looks like a nightmare to open up. I'm guessing it is just clipped together there are no screws to remove.

That's right, it's quite difficult (impossible?) to open it without breaking at least one clip but it can still be put together after.

Of course waiting for the battery to dry is longer, but nicer to the case.

Had the same problem with a 80-90% charged fuze2.
Took 2 days for the battery to empty.
As already mentioned, plug in the headphones.
If you hear no disortion, it is empty and you can recharge it.
I switched it on then, it started and before it could shut down cause the empty battery i plugged in the USB cable.be

So just let the battery go empty and all will be fine. :)

I am glad to have found this post, it saved me from prying open the case.  I had tried the extended hardware reset mentioned above and elsewhere but even a three minute attempt did not do any good.  Three days of discharge did.

In case it is worth mentioning, the way it got into this state is when I plugged in the USB cable.  I had not let Rockbox fully boot.  I believe it was still at the boot version screen prior to the Rockbox version screen prior to the menu.  It went black as it normally does before the OF splash screen but it just stayed black without any light on the ring.

Thanks.

Hey, I had the same problem with my Fuze, it would cut off all the time. After I force rebooted it (Hold power up for 90+ seconds UNTIL it cuts on) then I cut it off and plugged it up to my computer. I then installed the latest firmware onto it and it has been working fine although I lost my charger :P

When you say latest firmware do you mean the rockbox one or sansa fuze one?

Hi there;
just have installed rockbox and I'm surprised how good it finally is :)
The only problem I have with it is, that it freezes often; I have listened to an Album
and it froze 2 times.. The last was a hard one like mentioned aboth:
The player doesnt show anything and even with plugged in headphones I dont hear a thing..
You have some ideas? I will wait some days and then trying to plug it in the pc.

Some more information:
I was listening to a track; then it suddenly stopped; when I came onto the playing screen of my Fuze v2 it said "paused". I pressed play: then it froze.
I tried to restart it with the 10s off method: Everything turned off but I couldnt restart it.
Connecting it to the PC: My pc recognizes that there is a unformated flash divise connected, but nothing happens on the mp3 player.
Listening through the headphones: No sound.
What shall I do?
My Fuze is very new. But I want to run rockbox...
