ipodpatcher.exe not detecting my 80 gig iPod Classic

Okay, I've been trying to install Rockbox on my 80gig iPod classic, which I bought brand new from Wal-Mart back in late December (the 26th). I've done everything, up to where you run the ipodpatcher, and when I try that, this is what I see:

[INFO] Scanning disc devices...
[ERR] No ipods found, aborting
[ERR] Please connect your ipod and ensure that it is in disk mode
[ERR] Please refer to the Rockbox manual if you continue to have problems.

The thing is, my iPod IS connected (I can even see it when I look at My Computer), it IS in disk mode, and I've tried it on several different USB ports. I'm running Windows Vista, and as I said, I have the newest 80 gig iPod classic. Is this a compatibility issue? Don't tell me that Rockbox isn't compatible with my iPod. (Well, do tell me, but you know what I mean

Rockbox is not yet compatible with the new ipod classic.  i don't know how well Vista works with the rockbox software, though.

It's very clearly listed on the front page that the Classic is not supported:

* Apple: 1st through 5.5th generation iPod, iPod Mini and 1st generation iPod Nano
(not the Shuffle, 2nd/3rd gen Nano, Classic or Touch)

I know it isn't listed as supported, but it also isn't listed as not being supported.

So yes, it does say it is not supported.

Except that the frontpage is even more clear about it because it says

Rockbox is an open source firmware for mp3 players, written from scratch. It runs on a wide range of players: [...] (not the Shuffle, 2nd/3rd gen Nano, Classic or Touch)

I think that's a very important thing to stress...

And just to be clear on this, we're not aware of any owners of the classic doing any of the work. So currently the answer to "does anyone know when it will be supported?" is "never." That will change only when someone who actually owns one stops asking "when will it be supported?" and actually starts doing the work to MAKE it work.

We're trying to stop using the words "not supported" when we actually mean "doesn't work on". In this case I've paraphrased one of the original posters - but I hope the meaning is clear.
