SanDisk Sansa c200 v2
« on: November 15, 2007, 04:06:03 PM »
(branched off from http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=12906.0)

The SanDisk c200 v2 seems to be a completely different beast than the original c200 model, and thus Rockbox doesn't work on this.

We need PCB scans of the device and we want to get hold of firmware upgrade files for it, to get working on identifying its internals and poking to see how hard a Rockbox port for this baby is.

Anyone?

SanDisk has a firmware updater application available on their website here:

http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/Default.aspx?CatID=1376

Looks like the app goes online to fetch updates for the appropriate device you have. So we should see how it downloads and updates the device and monitor the update process. The app is Windows only, but it should still work with Wine on a Linux box.

I've got the Sandisk C250 v2  I'll go ahead and start tearing it apart and scanning some photos of the components for people to work with.  any specific place I should post the photos or send the photos so they're easily found?

Time to dig out the old multimeter and soldering iron!  I love tinkering with this kinda stuff :)

After seeing my boyfriend's e280 running Rockbox, I wanted in on the fun.  He went to Costco on Black Friday no less (I feel the love!) and bought me what we thought was an e280 and it appears it's a v2.  I had emailed Sandisk's support asking how to put the player in MSC mode.  This was their response:

"Thank you for contacting SanDisk Technical Support, and for your recent inquiry into our product line.

The player you have is e200 version2, it only has one mode, the MTP mode.

Should you have any further inquiries or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us via Email.

Best regards,
Anthony John Miles G.
SanDisk Technical Support"

Bah.  In the Settings menu there's no USB mode.  The firmware is 3.01.11A just like the previously mentioned e250.  Sucky.

Do note that the topic of this thread is c200 v2, not e200 v2 but let's treat them similar for a while.

Well, how do you do it when you upgrade firmware on the e200 v2? For the c200v2 there's supposedly this trick: "turn on the device while HOLD is on, then press and hold 'rewind' while attaching the cable."

Maybe I'm missing something here. I did the same, but the unit (e280) doesn't give you enough time to connect the usb cable before it enters shutdown mode, less you've got four arms!!

My apologies for not paying attention to which board I was on when posting!

I have not been successful in using the above mentioned technique.

I got the image fine and it looks very similar to the other v2 firmwares:

These firmwares are now confirmed to be using AS3525:

e200 v2
c200 v2
m200 v2 (although this player isn't actually called "v2" by SanDisk)

Still unconfirmed:

I own a e280 v2, the procedure for mine is:  while the unit is already on, you turn on the HOLD switch, hold down the left-arrow/rewind key, and plug it in.  Don't release the rewind button until the computer recognizes the device and the drive shows up.

Still unconfirmed:

Sansa Clip

Clip is confirmed.  It's firmware has the same textstring.

You can find the firmware image here: http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22669

So taht means all these "nest gen" sansa's have similar hardware to eachother and possibly similar development. Maybe that means their capabilities are increased also
