[SOLVED] Problems installing rockbox!
« on: October 06, 2007, 08:51:22 AM »
**WORKS FINE - TRIED THE MANUAL INSTALLATION**

Hi there!

Just to begin with, I'm very very new with this rockbox OS (which means that I would appreciate that you speak a language that I understand, you know :)).
Anyways, I've tried about everything to install it on my iPod, but however I do it, this error window keeps coming upp:

http://www.fuskbugg.se/pub/misc/__error.jpg

"16-bitars MS-DOS-undersystem
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe
NTVDM CPU upptäckte en otillåten instruktion.
CS:0f6d IP:fff9 OP:ff ff 01 6d ff Välj Stäng för att avsluta programmet"

- in english -

"16-bits MS-DOS-undersystem(?)
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe
NTVDM CPU discovered an illicit instruction.
CS:0f6d IP:fff9 OP:ff ff 01 6d ff Choose Close to turn the program of"

I've also tried to hit ignore but that won't help, it just keeps popping windows up, like 47 windows with different "codes". And a new text document creates itself for every 7th click (temp1.txt, temp2.txt, temp3.txt...).
And by the way, when I press Close the window 5 more windows popps up. Like a SPAM or something!

So, what should I do? Please...
(sorry about my poor english)

Where do you get the batch file you're running in the background there? That's not something we've put together I'm certain.

The whole method you're using there looks HUGELY out of date - you've not needed a bootloader-video.bin file for over a year. Why aren't you following our manual ?

Your manual sais:
Note: If the contents of the .zip file are extracted correctly, you will have a folder b called /.rockbox, which contains all the files needed by Rockbox, in the main folder
of your player’s drive. If you receive a “-1” error when you start Rockbox, you have
not extracted the contents of the .zip file to the proper location.

I did everything right until i came to that part, how do I even start Rockbox? I extracted the .zipfile directly to the root of my player. But how to i "start" Rockbox to look if the "-1" error popps up?

1.  Make sure that your iPod is in disk mode.

2.  Try setting the mount point in Rockbox Utility manually.  As our manual explains,

Quote
Warning: Upon the first start of Rockbox Utility you need to set at least the correct player and mountpoint in the configuration dialog. Autodetection can detect most player types. If autodetection failed or was unable to detect the mountpoint make sure to enter the correct values. The mountpoint indicates the location of the player in your filesystem. On Windows, this is the drive letter the player gets assigned, on other systems this is a path in the filesystem.

Warning: Autodetection is unable to distinguish between the Ipod 30 GB and 60 GB / 80 GB models and defaults to the 30 GB model. This will usually work but you might want to check the detected value, especially if you experience problems with Rockbox.

Also, you need to have administrator priviledges to install the bootloader (and detect the player). I think this isn't mentioned in the manual yet ...

Edit: this is only true for bootloader installation on Ipods and Sansa players.
