*sticks Babelfish into ear*

Your iPod nano is supposed to be formatted as FAT32, so that's okay.

But you need to tell us if you're trying this with a 1st Generation nano or a 2nd Generation nano.

If your nano looks something like this:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/40/KoolgiyBlackNano.JPG

Then Rockbox will work.

If it looks like this:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/b2/Nano_omores.jpg

Then Rockbox will not work.

But I'm betting it's a 1st Generation. Can you tell us what revision you're using? There is a string of numbers that starts with an r when Rockbox starts up. Can you read them and tell us what the numbers are?

Hello again.

My ipod is of first generation, is the same one that the photo first, black ahead and silver behind.

the numbers that appear when initiating rockbox are these:

to see. r14367-070816

after appearing this to the 7 or 8 seconds the message jumps of: “Not partition found. Insert USB cable and fix it.”

thanks for the aid.

to pardon by my English

I'm really going out on a limb here, but try to restore your iPod in iTunes, then reinstall Rockbox according to the manual.

Is your computer running Windows or Linux? Or do you have a Macintosh?

Can you post the output of ipodpatcher?  That displays information about your ipod's partitions which may give us a clue.

That's strange... nothing seems to be out of the ordinary with iPodpatcher.

What about the Rockbox build itself? Are you extracting it to the root of your player's drive?

In other words, if your iPod appears as, say, G:\, are you telling whatever you open zip files with to just extract the contents of the zip file to G:\, or somewhere else?

If the folder .rockbox is on the root of ipod, in fact the program makes the attempt start but soon found shows to the message of error “Not partition. Insert USB cable and fix it.”

the other day I could install a very old version but with installer old of rockbox, and loader, but it failed since the sound was not clean, and ipod was blocked.

for that reason it is strange to me that with the new structure of rockbox it does not work.

I think that my ipod has some failure in the internal memory or some sector of ipod is damaged.

it has something to see that days back installed ipodlinux, and some data esten giving failure for the installation of rockbox? But already formate completely ipod is due to have erased no?

If you're thinking that the internal flash memory may be damaged, then you'll have to use scandisk or some kind of disk maintainence software to diagnose it and see where the real trouble lies.

Hello, I believe already that where this the error, and because gives the failure of the partition, when installing ipodlinux uses aefdisk32.exe, with which it creates a partition to install ipodlinux.

aes x /delete:x
aes x /pri:YYYY:fat32

That I must make to leave ipod like at the outset?

i've been having this problem aswell, its driving me nutz

i have a black 4GB Gen1 Nano

havent tried using windows's native format/partitioner im a linux freak

also here is fdisk's output

Disk /dev/sdc: 4095 MB, 4095737344 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 497 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Device Boot      Start         End      Blocks   Id  System
/dev/sdc1               1          10       80293+   0  Empty
/dev/sdc2              11         497     3911824+   b  W95 FAT32

and also for some strange reason diagnostics mode says "PARTITION UNKNOWN"  in teh drive info... page thingy,

mkfs.vfat -F 32 /dev/sd$#

dunno whats wrong my heads starting to hurt

upon changing partition ID to 0C it fails faster im gonna go to my friends house and try restoring it with itunes and get back to every1  previously ive been doing the
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IpodManualRestore

its weird cause the apple firmware can write/create the directories on first boot but rockbox fails to detect/mount

ok so i went to a friends house to have him format it with windowsXP fixed the diagnostic hd_info patition=fat32

but still rockbox fails to boot

think it might have something to do with it being a "nike ipod"? i dunno i bought it off craigslist

so yeah theres my problem i gotta find out what makes this ipod so different

ipod: ipod nano 2gb 1st generation
firmware: 1.1 and 1.3.1
model: MA004FD
format: Windows
pc: windows xp sp2

i have the same problem, i succsessfully patched the bootloader with ipodpatcher

i manually copied the rockbox zip content in the root directory of the ipod (I:\.rockbox)
(used this version 14968 and  r14974: http://build.rockbox.org/dist/build-ipodnano/rockbox.zip)

the ipod boots perfect, i see the rockbox logo, and then a pastel-blue screen with black text appears:
Code: [Select]
No partition
found.
Insert USB cable
and fix it

i also tired the auto auto update tool http://download.rockbox.org/rbutil/win32/rbutilqt-v1.0.1.zip
i manually selected "apple ipod nanon 1st gen) at I:\ (autodetection works too)

bootloader installation dont work:
Code: [Select]

Searching ipods
No Ipods found
but the rockbox installation works without a problem. i tried both versions "archived build" and "current build"

i tried to completely delete the ipod and fat32 format it with windows,  also tried  ipodpatcher's "format"

all with the same result. "no partition found. insert usb cable and fix it"

is there something else i can do? i really would like to get rid of apples "system", i really want to use rockbox.

are there any other things i can try on a windows machine? is there a "hard disk" image of the ipod, with the correct partition which i only have to wirte to the ipod? are there any debug tools / log files i can look into or sent to you to help you debug it?

Install a Rockbox build as described in this section of the Manual under the heading "Installing the firmware."
