Remote questions

If I were to buy an Apple Remot,e would any part of it work? I mean, the dock port isn't used, but I get a lovely audio output via the Apple dock when I put my player in. Does the same go for the remote, or does it not work? If not, could at least this much be added before any porting of controls from iPodLinux is implemented?
