Title: Problem with Voice and Menu System in latest CVS Build
Post by: wesderby on March 05, 2007, 07:35:01 PM
I downloaded the latest "current build" of Rockbox for my 30GB iPod Video about an hour ago.  The sound quality issue I mentioned for ESPN podcasts in the audio section last week has totally been corrected and sounds great...Now, however, I'm noticing that the menues in Rockbox aren't voiced correctly or have changed.

I get the Playlist Options menu, something that sounds like "Tag Cache", "Browse Plugins", "Recorder", and "Info"...No sound settings or general settings being voiced, and I'm guessing a few other menues are missing from the voice system.  Unfortunately, I don't have a sighted person handy to look at the screen for me and let me know what's not being spoken; my 2-year-old daughter isn't much help and my wife's still at work.

If it helps, I've tried this with both the MicroSoft Mike voice and one of the IBM voices.  Currently, I'm using MS_Mike.

Thanks for any help you guys can give.

The voices in the Wiki are out of date. Please try one of these:

Thanks for the tip on that site...I've saved it to my favorites and will keep it on-hand in case this problem comes up in the future.  I'm running the March 5Th voice update, using the "David" voice, and it's a lot better than Microsoft Mike...Reads all the menues, too, from what I can tell.  Not sure how much I like the new structure, but I'm getting used to it.  Also, I got a bit nervous since I'd never seen a ".7z" file before, and my unzip application couldn't handle it; thanks to the Rockbox Manual, I found 7-Zip from SourceForge.  Works great.  I've just installed the latest build of Rockbox, and everything seems to be working smoothely.

Thanks again.

Two things:

1) I have a new voice for the latest Rockbox versions made with
Cepstral Callie. Anyone want it? (I'm not signed up on the wiki yet
and am no great shakes at coding...but maybe can help with docs if I
ever get to learning latex?)

2) There's a different problem with the voice now; not sure if it's
player-specific or not, but I wonder if anyone else has noticed?

I have an iAudio X5 (30GB) with the latest build as of this morning,
12-Mar-2007 and my newly created Callie voice. When the player comes
up, all the menus read perfectly, but if I select "resume playback",
then stop the playback, the "Resume playback", "Settings", and "Files"
menu options stop speaking. They're still available, and they open,
and their functions speak, best as I can tell from my limited testing,
but those items from the main menu stop speaking. They also don't
speak when you bring up the menu while something else is playing. Any
clue as to the cause of this behavior?

Now to go learn how to operate the new Rockbox--seems to have changed
a bit since last month :)
