Title: Audio skipping and slowness on H10
Post by: zebbyrocks on February 19, 2007, 05:01:05 PM
Hey there,

I've just discovered RockBox ( which btw rocks), and I have a H10 5gb iRiver. However I am experiencing a few problems, every so often the audio stops.

I looked at a few other threads, and they said about the debus thing, its does it when the pcm empties, and seems to happen between 2-5 times a song.

Also, the menus go very slow, and changing volume is crazy. Its like the whole thing pauses for a few seconds, acknowledges the request, goes up or down 1 notch, then pauses again, and keeps flipping between volumes (I presume this might be because I get impatient and keep scrolling the thingy :P, however should it really be pausing? :()

Thank you for any help, and keep up the good work :D

[EDIT] Also forgot to mention, the icon in the top right (circle with some marks - either a CD shape or globe? lol) goes on and off quite randomly, and also a lot. It's on mostly constantly, but part of the skipping and stopping occurs around times it dissapeares and repears. I will flash serveral times at points. This might be normal, but thought I'd just say[/EDIT]
[EDIT2] ANother edit, not sure if it makes much difference but the poor thing is pretty full (around 200mb of space left only)[/EDIT2]

I have an H10 5gb too and yes you will have problems if you use an equilizer. In other words turn it off and go to general settings > sytem > disk and enable dir cache and put the disk spin down time to 3 secs (saves power) this willl make browsing your stuff better! If you are using the database enable load to ram for that under general settings > fileview > Database >
that will make database go faster, (I wouln't do both because it will use lots of ram) just pick which you like!
Hope this helps~

Thank you kindly for your reply. I did as you instructed and it has sped it up nicely already. I was also thinking of removing the (not sure how to say it), bar thingy, that says how many Db it is? That constantly spikes up and down. Decibel metre maybe?

However in the optioins around that I can't actually find out how to disable it, just change it's type.

Any ideas?

Also, any idea what that icon is in the top right? :P It now seems to flash constantly :P

Thanks again

I haven't figured that one out but I don't think that it would make a difference!
Which WPS are you using?

I'm using rockbox_default currently, Seemed the simplest and so therefore least battery usage? :p

Wondering what the battery consumption is like. My battery's kinda died, lasts a day but kept having to charge it over night before, although haven't used this H10 for a good few months :P

The rockbox default uses more power becasue it has the little bar things on the bottom!
I would recomend icatcher which also comes with rockbox but you will need to get the font pack from here http://download.rockbox.org/daily/fonts/ hopefully that link works (It does click the bottom pack!)
Using icatcher will also increase speed!

This post was very helpful....I was wondering is the EQ ever going to work properly for the H10 or is it something the H10 doesnt have the power to use?

thanks
