Title: I Think I Broke Rockbox, Please Help!

When i turn on my Ipod all it says is:
Rockbox boot loader
Version 20060126-1839
IPOD version: 0xFFFFFFFF
TOSHIBA MK3008GAL

I know that I have a very old version but my stepbrother put it on there for me and i don't know how to do the updates. My stepbrother cannot do it because i no longer live in the same household as him. When I plug it in to my computer it doesnt work becuase it gets those threee lines and thats all it doent go into dock mode, please help as i would like to be able to access the data on my Ipod....if it helps its an Ipod Video.

In addition when i throw my Ipod in disx mode then go to my computer then the removable drive that it is windows explorer freezes and doesn't work anymore...
