Title: iRiver H10 5GB
Post by: DFWPhantom on September 27, 2006, 02:45:45 PM
Will Rockbox allow me to move playlists from WinAmp into the H10?  If so I want to install Rockbox.  I read the install instructions, but when I try to zip directly into the H10, it does not show as an option in the zip dialogue (although the H10 does show up under "my computer."  Can someone guide me on how to get Rockbox on the H10?  Thanks a lot.

this will show you EXACTLY how to install rockbox on  your flavor of h10 (20GB model or 5/6GB model)

also, rockbox allows using winamp playlist, but you have to make them absolute.

meaning if you have a playlist that points to D:\music\artist\wah.mp3 ;
you have to remove the D:\ part.

the best way to do this is with wordpad or any other favorite txt editor.

just open your .m3u (winamp playlist) in there and tell it to replace all occurrences of whats not needed with a nothing.

for instance, i have all my my music on my pc in this format

........................\album 2\wahmp3
so most of my playlists are stored in my main MUSIC (d:\music\)

so they all point an artists folder already.

in rockbox on my h10 i have a folder called music (make sure you UNHIDE this folder as it is hidden in windows by default and rockbox wont see it)

so my m3u playlists look like D:\music\artist\album\wah.mp3 and so on. i delete everything trailing the artist so it now looks like \artist\album\wah.mp3

it's pretty easy, but the explaination is long.

Thanks a lot.

How do I know if my H10 5 GB is MTP or UMS?

How do I connect in UMS mode?

Easiest way to tell is the software your iriver came with, if it came with the iriver plus software then its UMS and if the instructions say to use Media Player 10 then its MTP.

If your player is UMS you dont need to use the UMS trick you can already access the system info to mod the bootloader.

To connect an MTP H10 in UMS mode you have to reset it (push reset for 20Gb or remove and replace battery for 5/6Gb) then hold the 'o' butten and turn the player on with the usb cable connected. If this worked successfully then it should say 'emergency connect' then show the normal usb connected screen.

You also have to have your computer set to allow you to see hidden files and folders in order to get into the system folder where you will need to put the modded bootloader.

Hope this helps

I almost had to cry today.
I had to give up rockbox a long time ago when my Archos Player fried. And now I can finally have it back on my IRiver H10 6 GB!!! I didn't know you had already progressed so far....
When it has recording, it's gonna be perfect.
