Title: Two little things I don't like in the new version (Sansa Clip Zip)
Post by: Mr Wolf on September 15, 2017, 11:19:08 AM
Hi! I've just upgraded my Sansa Clip Zip to Rockbox 3.14. Mainly, I've upgraded to make it work with a new notebook with Windows 10.

Two little things I don't like of the new version are:
1) To turn off the player when keys are locked, now I have to long press the power button for a longer time (about 10 seconds), while earlier I had to long press it for about 3 seconds.
I use very often this feature when I keep the player in my pocket with keys locked and I have to turn it off without taking it out.
I don't think one can long press the power button unintentionally for a few seconds.
2) When I turn the player on, it opens the settings menu instead of the main menu as earlier. Why?

I don't know if these are bugs or there's an option to configure them or if they are present in the Sansa Clip Zip only.

Thanks for your work!

1)  Holding power is the hard reset.  Don't do that unless the device is frozen.  I'm not sure why disabling power off while keys are locked seems to have been added.

2)  The screen at start up is controlled by the Start Screen option under playback.  If it starts with settings, probably that setting has been changed to settings.

Thank you! So, holding power button now is just reset. I forgot it.
For 2), I really didn't see that option. There are so many!  ::)

Here is a build for the clipzip that should have the power button issue fixed.

This is following a large rework of the action system so do let me know if you notice any
other issues with button presses

assuming you are using a current version you should only need to
copy rockbox.sansa to the .rockbox directory on your device

As always if you do have issues try removing the .rockbox directory and do a clean install first.

Hi! Sorry, I forgot to say I tried and it works! Thank you!
So far, I haven't found any other issue.

Hi!
I was wondering: is it the normal behaviour that, when I connect the Sansa Clip Zip to PC, and it's turned off, it's not recognized? A popup appears in Windows, saying the device was not recognized. Then, device turns it on and I have to disconnect and reconnect it again.
If well remember, earlier, in the previous Rockbox version, the Sansa Clip Zip was recognized even when connected when turned off.

Windows 7 - I guess also Windows 10 (I don't have it with me and I can't try now)
As I said, if I well remember, the Sansa Clip Zip was correctly recognized even when turned off. Not a big deal, though. Just to have a confirmation.

I tried my [turned off] clipzip on windows 7 and I could not reproduce the issue.
Perhaps try a different usb cable?

My device has the latest dev version.
I'm also using the newer multiboot bootloader on this device so that is a possibility

Thanks for your feedback!
I'm using version 3.14, actually a modified version you kindly posted here, which solves some issues (see post 5).
Is it worth updating to a dev version?

technically you are using a dev version there have been other updates since then but if the device works for you really no need to upgrade
