Title: Lost my Clip Zip... looking for affordable replacement
Post by: Roseweave on December 23, 2015, 06:58:38 PM
I tried to repair an old broken Clip+ and Fuze but it seems like I totaled them, especially the Fuze. I don't have much money and the prices have gone ridiculous.

What are my options? I'll consider a non rockboxable mp3 player if it has crossfeed/speaker emulation as that's the main reason I use it(and expandable microsd).

The Zip is a hard deal to beat feature and value wise. Or it was. If you want to Rockbox your new player a used Apple Ipod works too. If you don't necessarily need to Rockbox it but you do need a small cheap good sounding player there's always the xDuoo X2 for under $50 new. It's still a bit of a work in progress but the next firmware release should fix the major bugs. In some ways it sounds better than a Zip already. More output power.

They're getting rare so they're starting to be sold for scalper prices everywhere.  This is strange for 'old tech' - is there any chance this is to blame on Rockbox, since supported devices are so relatively few?

Anyway - it looks like the best deal at the moment is ebay or similar (though I've seen one DRASTICALLY underpriced in the "used electronics" cabinet at a random Game Stop - if you have time to really scour for a deal).  The prices on ebay are .. doable .. if you really need a unit, and you plan to take care of it.  I'm considering it just to have something as backup to my FuzeV2 since the click wheel won't last forever.
