If I've picked an album I am listening to via the artist > albums menu, I would like to expect that when I turn the player back on, and it resumes playing the last track I listen to, if I change album, the player will still be showing everything in artist mode, not files mode. This means that unless I keep the player switched on for the entire time, if I wish to change album by an artist, I have to go all the way back via the menu and find the artist again. Clip always stayed on whichever way you chose the song initially, why doesn't rockbox?

It's annoying that I have to always refind the album via the artist list because when the player goes off it defaults the currently listened to track to file/folder view instead of artist/album view.

Under settings what do you have the start screen set to?
-
Under Startup/SHutdown it is set to Start Screen, whereabouts do you mean?

The problem being that when it comes back on, whilst it's still got the last track I was listening to playing and selected (what I do want) when I go back to the album tracklisting, it is no longer in the database/artist/album mode, but rather the files/folder mode for selecting tracks. I need to force it to stay in the artist/album database mode for folder viewing when I selected back after the device comes back on.

I don't understand why it defaults to showing the folder when I've selected the music via Artist?

What setting should be set so it actually remembers to stay in the track names rather than file names mode?

You might want to try:
A - Not constantly bumping the thread needlessly by replying to yourself.
B - Giving us a look at your config.txt [1] so that someone might be able to see what it is that you've actually done.
