Title: sansa clip - can i set default usb mode to "charge only"?
Post by: larry_llama on August 01, 2014, 12:14:08 AM
Hi,

I charge my player several times a week but only transfer files a few times a year. I also use it in the car and would like to charge it from the head unit's USB while playing music.

Is it possible to set the default USB action to "charge only", and require a key press to enable file transfers? I don't see any reference to this in the manual. I can't be the only one who charges more often than transferring :)

Alternately, is there a way to completely disable USB file transfer functionality? I could use an SD reader to do my transfers instead.

Side note: I would say that enabling car mode on usb-charge units should disable transfers. It basically doesn't work as-is because when you start the car, the unit does not play music ;-)

Thanks!

You'd have to edit the source code and compile your own build.

Car mode works fine, you aren't supposed to use it with a USB host, but rather a car adapter.

Yes but many cars now have built in USB (with host) as do even the cheapest decks. I have found that using car adapters while also plugged in to auxiliary audio inputs can introduce noise. The built in host ports have better suppression.

I guess a hardware shortcut could be to cut the data lines from a USB cable for car use...
