I've been interested in upgrading the stock HDD on my iPod with a Flash type memory card and have installed tarkan's CF to SD card. I'm using a 128GB Kingston SD card but there's some very erratic behavious when copying files from my PC to the iPod (there seems to be some instability in the USB protocol in the manner the data is transferred)
I'm no technical expert, but I'd like to see if any other users are experiencing any issues with transferring data using a similar CF to SD mod.
-
i think the battery not have always enough power for the cf-mod.
-
A cf card uses less power than a hard drive so I wouldn't worry about that.
-
In my opinion and experience this is the case when the cf need´s more power, because of heavy i/o traffic.
...an other idea could be the cpu of the ipod which isnt fast :) ...but this problem is more often with cf, than hdd´s.
?? Do you have measures or can measure that ??
-
You can measure it with a power meter if you want, but flash memory uses a tiny fraction of the power of a mechanical hard disk.

@saratoga
..but under heavy i/o it slow´s down when the card is not getting enough power.
*tough i read an article that describes it especially with sd card*
..not 100% sure at all, but 90% :)
@vipeman3
Try to exchange card and look if the error still exist
...and or try the daily build, that would be faster :)

This is not how digital electronics work. Things do not slow down. If you overload the voltage regulator, the entire device will power off.

I've tried two different brand 128GB SD cards. I've also tried with two different CF to SD adapters. The problem persists. It's most unstable under rockbox (file transfer will just stop).

@saratoga
Lets say you have the better arguments .... but either maybe the SD is getting on/ofF.... :)
@Vipman3
Did you have a working Ipod 5.5 with a SD Card ?
...and is it ZIF -> CF -> SD ?
-
yes, it's a zif -> CF -> SD
I have also has in the past a zif -> CF (32GB) thats has worked fine but CF capacity was insufficient.
I later upgraded to zif 128GB SSD (ADATA) but again price vs capacity isn't as good as SD cards.
really hoping there's a more stable way to get zif -> CF -> SD option to work.
-
I have had no issues with my zif -> CF -> SD rig from Tarkan... Maybe you should also consider straight CF. The NOS 128gb 300x card seems to be working well in my rig.
