Hey guys. Someone out there has to know enough about all this to help me out, so I figured why not just ask for a direct solution. I'm a musician, and my ipod is literally important to me, so please and thank you way ahead of time.
I recently decided to organize my library on my computer. Seeing as how my computer had at the time a lot of music that wasn't on my ipod classic, 160 gig, I figured why not just wipe all the music off of the ipod, and copy everything over all newly organized? Did that, then my ipod wouldn't open rockbox for more the 15 seconds without freezing.
Fine.
Reinstalled Rockbox, and now whenever I open Rockbox a little window pops up on my ipod that says, to the effect of, "loading rockbox.ipod failed, trying fallback image." Immediately I'm in what appears to be rockbox, but anything I try to play just skims through the songs without playing anything from the songs, and then getting to the end of the album, and going back to song selection as if the album was just played through.
Okay...?
So, I tried the files through my computer, as if the ipod was an external hard drive, and the files play off of the ipod just fine in vlc. So...
What's the problem here? What is HAPPENING TO ME?! o.O

It sounds like your .rockbox folder is corrupted or incompletely installed. Usually this happens when the unzip process isn't completed and some but not all of the files got copied. I would download a new rockbox .zip and extract it over the old one.

I am having the same skipping problem. I also have the message " loading rockbox.ipod failed trying fallback image " Everything was working fine until I decided to do an update. EmCore is working and rockbox seems to be working, only the skipping issue. I have tried everything else. Maybe you can help.

What you describe is perfectly understandable, perfectly normal (well...normal for the case where you've trashed the Rockbox binary).
Even the emCORE installation instructions hint at why this would fail.
The fallback image of Rockbox embedded in emCORE contains no audio codecs, so it is perfectly understandable that audio will not play at all. It can't possibly.
Mount the device, completely remove the (almost certainly corrupt) /.rockbox folder, and extract a current build (http://build.rockbox.org/data/rockbox-ipod6g.zip) to the root of the device.

It is amazing what happens when you follow instructions EXACTLY :P Instead of using the emCore release, I was returning to the rockbox release page and using that one :-[ Thanks for your help Saint

There is no Rockbox release for the Classic.
None at all.
Whatever build you extracted to the device, if it came from our releases page, it certainly wasn't for the Classic.
If you attempt to use a Rockbox binary for an arbitrary target it *will* fail - I guess you discovered this.
Nor should you be using the binary available from the emCORE releases page, it is absolutely ancient and many improvements were made since then.
The only reason that particular revision is chosen is because it is the same as the fallback image and USB is known to work for most people using this release.
But it simply isn't worth it to use a ~2 year old build and negate the many recent improvements for the sake of USB stability on the offchance it might not work when there is always an option available to you embedded within emCORE itself, and you would only have to do so if USB failed for you in a current build.
