Title: ipod 5.5g SSD options? success stories?
Post by: jbills on February 20, 2012, 03:17:06 AM
Hi - still to this day the only gripe I have about my rockboxed ipod video is the old clunker 80gb drive.  Every so often I log into the forums to see if anyone has converted theirs up to a 120gb SSD, and is enjoying the benefits.

Doesn't seem like anyone has.  But it looks like PATA-ZIF SSDs are getting down in price to where it might be interesting.  even more so, SDXC cards might soon be an option that we could bootleg in there.

has anyone made any headway or attempts to get a large capacity SSD going in their ipod video?

thanks...

guess not!

was specifically wondering if anyone's tried one of the photofast, kingspec, super talent ssd drives in an ipod video. some googling and looking at the hard drive replacement wiki, seems to suggest they might work.  anyone successfully attempted or am I going to be the first?  :)

I've been spending the past few days trying to get my 256GB SSD drive to work with Rockbox. The native Apple firmware can see and use the drive's full capacity. The Rockbox installation process looks successful. I can see all of the Rockbox files on the drive, when connected to a computer. But, Rockbox simply will not boot.

Tested drive:

SuperTalent 256GB 1.8" PATA SSD ZIF
Model #: FZM56GW18
