Title: Rockbox removed and iPod dead
Post by: Simone on October 20, 2011, 10:51:30 AM
Hi! I've installed manually Rockbox 3.9.1 with emCore on my iPod nano 2st gen. and it work fine. When I tried to delete it, the bootloader remained and did not start the original OS. I tried deleting the partition from Mac's DiskUtility and replace it with a Fat32.
Now iPod not recognize in Windows, Mac, Linux and obviously iTunes. Only when i plug on it Windows see it as "emCore Debugger" and search her driver. After appear black screen with "No partition found. Insert USB cable and fix it."
dmesg on Linux returns this

Code: [Select]
[ 1199.965559] usb 1-1: New USB device found, idVendor=ffff, idProduct=e000
[ 1199.965577] usb 1-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0
[ 1199.965589] usb 1-1: Product: emCORE Debugger
[ 1199.965599] usb 1-1: Manufacturer: emCORE
[ 1230.588718] usb 1-1: USB disconnect, device number 3
[ 1361.216174] usb 1-1: new high speed USB device number 4 using ehci_hcd
[ 1361.349522] usb 1-1: New USB device found, idVendor=ffff, idProduct=e000
[ 1361.349533] usb 1-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0
[ 1361.349541] usb 1-1: Product: emCORE Debugger
[ 1361.349546] usb 1-1: Manufacturer: emCORE
[ 1366.869903] usb 1-1: USB disconnect, device number 4

Your best bet is to head to #freemyipod-support on Freenode and talk to them there...this is a classic case where reading the instructions that are freely available could have avoided a lot of anguish.

emCORE Uninstallation (http://www.freemyipod.org/wiki/EmCORE_Uninstallation)
Quote
iPod Nano 2G

If you removed the firmware partition during the installation, you need to restore with iTunes first, so ALL data on your iPod Nano 2G will be deleted!

1: Power on your iPod
2: Scroll to Tools in the Boot menu
3: Press Select
4: Scroll to Uninstall emCORE
5: Press Select

That was all you needed to do.
I cannot tell you what you need to do to recover from this state now, as you deviated from the instructions and I have no way of telling anything else that you may or may not have done.
You will need to contact the freemyipod project directly on IRC and seek assistance there.

If you do not have an IRC client installed on your computer/phone/internet enabled device, there is a web portal for Freenode here (http://webchat.freenode.net/).
Simply enter your name, and the channel (#freemyipod-support), fill in the captcha and select connect.
You will need to be patient and stay connected, it is not unusual for it to take several hours or more for someone to be able to respond to your question.

emCORE don't have options, only a white screen with "EmCORE 0.2.1". I pressed all the buttons but I haven't seen anything; only Rockbox.

This behaves as if there's the emCORE fastboot app installed, which means that emCORE can apparently still access the file system while Rockbox can't, which is weird.
To fix this, you'll probably have to use the emCORE tools to remove the fastboot app or launch the uninstaller directly. Check with #freemyipod-support for more details. Apparently all the knowledgeable people were asleep or busy when you tried that the last time, but you might have more luck during the weekend.
