Title: IPOD Video Sluggish response with Rockbox
Post by: pprather on November 03, 2009, 09:12:55 PM
I mostly listen to full albums so this isn't much of an issue, but I've noticed my ipod video is sluggish with track skipping (forward and reverse) as well as pausing/playing.  Sometimes it's quick and responsive, but generally it takes a few seconds to act once I hit a button.  Is this typical with Rockbox or could it be a sign my HDD is beginning to go?

Are use using the database or Rockbox as a file browser?  I use it as a file browser and it's pretty responsive.  What WPS is being used?  I find that sometimes the WPS makes a difference.  There was an issue a year and half ago where track changing response and playing the correct track was an issue.

And the thanks for the fix here:

Turn on the directory cache if you don't have it on already.

I'm using it as a file browser.  The WPS i used when I noticed it the most was Drivebox.  Right now I'm using Spartan Black (very cool WPS).  I did not have directory cache on, but it is now and seems to have made a huge difference.  I also have load to RAM set to yes.  Should I disable this?

If you don't use the database then there is no point in loading the database to RAM, and disabling this will save a little memory and allow the disk to spin up slightly less often during playback. It probably won't make much of a difference to the problem you are talking about here though.

Turning on the Directory Cache seems to have solved the problem.  Many thanks!
