Title: Can you disable ipod firmware?
Post by: itix on October 10, 2009, 10:24:06 AM
Hope this is the right section.

Anyway, is there any way to disable the original Apple OS, because every time I plug the iPod into the computer, the original OS boots and I have to reboot the iPod to go back to rockbox.

Thanx!

When you plug it into your computer is the hold switch flipped?

Also, what build/version of rockbox are you using?

I usually plug it in with the hold switch in hold... I think, I don't really think about such things :P

I used to run rockbox from about half a year ago... it was before the new theme galleries were there, but the shit FAT file system got corrupted AGAIN so I am currently running the latest build. I just reformatted and flashed the latest build onto it so I haven't really tried plugging it in to the computer with the new build.

I thought it had something to do with the bootloader rather than the firmware itself

The bootloader is designed to boot into the Apple firmware when the ipod is powered on with the hold switch on. So if you don't want to boot into the Apple firmware, don't plug in the USB cable while you have the hold switch on - it's that simple.

Alright... I'll try to make sure that the hold switch is not in hold mode when I charge it
