Title: sansa e200 series v2.
Post by: maxpancho on July 17, 2009, 09:24:48 AM
yeah, I think there were a lot of topics over here bout v2 series. but just wondering, it's 2 years already since it have been released, but still no support. is it really so difficult to adjust rockbox to new version, that 2 years ain't enough? thanks.

The problem right now is that we still have a couple of show-stopper bugs that have to be ironed out, mostly related to the storage on these devices. Also, the people working on these ports have other things (mostly real-life stuff) to deal with as well. We don't have a schedule to keep with on new ports; people work on them as they wish, not on the wishes of others.

Please, even if it takes 20 years, the ports will be ready when they're ready, and not a moment sooner. We'll announce when the ports are officially ready for everyday use. We do promise that we're not going to pull a "Duke Nukem Forever" on people, okay? :)

How exactly are you going to back that promise up? We have no idea *if* these ports will ever be ready.

Yes, quite a good point. I stand corrected.

There is only rockbox.  If someone else was modding the e200v2 we would have been able to use their code rather then reverse engineer it from scratch.

It won't work.  The hardware is different.

Presumably he means the e200v2 version.  In which case:

It won't be a DNF situation because Rockbox never promised a port in the first place. ;)

I hope someone can give me good advise. Should I buy a v1 or v2? I want to install rockbox on it, and my main (read: only) interest is audiobooks/podcasts.  Price of v1 is $20-30 cheaper.

Thanks.

V2, when they are supported, will be faster than the v1s

How much faster? Is the V1 very slow?

Haven't seen any reviews of the s. e200 with complaints about speed. I don't care about playing doom on it.

Ignore the comment about speed.  I should have deleted it.  ;)  The E200 v1 is plenty fast for everything excepts Monkey's Audio (.APE) playback and maybe Rockboy.  Doom even runs fine.  The E200 v1 provides an excellent Rockbox experience.
Life is too short to wait.  ;)

Thanks soap, that's what I wanted to know. I will buy a v1 then. I don't really care about APE and I will certainly not use this for gaming (got other better equipped gadgets for that)
