Title: ipod nano flac rockbox experience please
Post by: gychang on March 29, 2009, 11:59:45 AM
Just stumbled on this.

I have 4G Nano laying around, actually my wife's but she likes the older Shuffle better so I may do her a favor and switch.

I need to have a higher quality, I have lots of flac files and I want to play them.  Anyone have it setup with rockbox?, comments will be greatly apprecited.

Check out this page for installing Rockbox onto your nano: http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/RockboxUtility .

Its pretty easy to use and has some simple instructions!

As for playing the FLAC files, you can check out the manual for help there for checking what file types are supported. But you can use your iPod as a mass storage device, meaning that you can just copy them to your iPod, find them through the file browser and play them.

But, you should still consider reading through the manual so you know the features!

The Nano provides about as smooth of a Rockbox experience as you can get.

First hand - yes.
Sound - It is a very flat (good) player with 32ohm and up phones and suffers a mild bass rolloff with sub 32 ohm phones - a very common issue with DAPs.
But let's make something clear - outside fringe cases (which I consider defects) - all DAPs sound the same when driving most loads, and despite the audiofool BS out there - most the problem loads are not high-end headphones.

How's that for lack-of-clarity?
