Title: Ipod 5.5g and various docks
Post by: Pileot on January 31, 2008, 01:06:42 AM
For christmas i got an ipod dock with a remote that i could plug into my stereo. I plugged it in, started up rockbox, and to my dismay it would only play sound (the remote didnt work with RB).

i decided playing music with the dock was more important than rockbox so i nuked it, loaded up itunes, and rediscovered why i hated itunes.

Recently i reinstalled RB and this latest version (as of like two days ago) wouldnt play through the stereo. Not with the remote, nothing.

So im asking, is there a way to get RB to work with ipod docks? I really dont want to downgrade to itunes again...

There is currently no way to use the remote, due to no Apple Accessories Protocol implementation in Rockbox.  Rockbox does send a signal through the line-out, so simple accessories that just want an audio signal will work, but your dock probably wants to talk in Apple's Accessory Protocol before it'll take any notice. It's possible that if you boot the iPod into the original firmware, let that say hello to the dock (start playing music), and then reboot into Rockbox, the dock will still keep taking the audio signal.
