Title: recording feature on ipod video?

on the main menu for rockbox there is a recording option
what is this for.
i have never heard of recording sound on the ipod
im sure the answer is pretty obvious, but i have no idea

It's for recording from a microphone that you attach via the dock port.

Pedantic answer is that there is no mic-level input on the dock port, only a line-level input.
So you would need to connect a microphone AND a preamp.
