Hi. I have problems transfering folders - I have to individually transfer mp3 files into folders or they don't play properly (happens on various pc's). Following lengthy transferal sessions, it's hit and miss as to whether tracks play.
I have tried various bootloaders and builds (Rockbox, 007 and Angryman) along with recomended themes to accompany H10 20GB. I have followed every step explained for installation of each build & bootloader.
Am I doing something stupidly wrong somewhere, or is it something I may have done to turn my player into a paperweight?
Any suggestions out there please ???
(sorry, just seen that I have posted in instalation - should have posted in audio/playback - duh)

...or they don't play properly...
What does that mean? You can't find them in the File Browser? You can find them and they don't commence playing? They start but then stop? They start but are somehow unlistenable?
It sounds like a disk problem in your player (corruption, bad sectors, broken FAT table) or somesuch.
First of all install the very latest build and then do nothing else before trying to copy songs over and play them. It won't look pretty, but it will allow better diagnosis of the problem if you can then say exactly what happens.

Thanks for reply bascule.
I can find all folders and files. Most files tend to play all the way through. those that play for say 20 secs I have deleted and transfered again with 50% success rate on playback. If I transfer a whole folder I can see it and its files on the player but playback is generally hit & miss. I then delete those files that don't play properly and transfer again - sometimes playback is 100% and sometimes it just aint happening.
If I try to drag n drop 20 folders at once, the player freezes after about 10 folders and communication is lost. I now create specific folders on the player via pc and transfer files - again it's hit n miss on playback.
Thats whats happening...
I have done as you suggested but still get problems.
I love Rockbox for all that it is and don't want to go back to the iriver firmware.

That still sounds very much like a disk error to me.
Look into chkdsk /f (Wikipedia link) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chkdsk)

Thanks for the help.
chdsk starts stage 1 then says it cant perform.
Something fishy afoot with the disc it most certainly seems to be.
Will definately use Rockbox when I replace the player...

Recently I've been up against an alike-looking problem. Whenever a drag&drop files, the player copies for a while and then stops responding and in some 30 seconds Windows's error message of "Delayed file Write" appears, saying there was an error etc...
All the above stated was accompanied by unusual clicking of the hard drive of the player. It went like "one-two" 2sec pause "one-two" and so on. Appearantly an HDD problem.
I found a solution: I downloaded a program which has a "speed limit" function. SO when I copy I put that limit to 50Kb/s and it does it smoothly.
THe program's name is muCommander - I'm sure there's plenty out there with this feature. (make sure when copying inside muCommander you press Alt+C to copy and right away Alt+P to pause, then adjust the speed limit and resume)
I even manage to exercise the player by gradual increasing of the speed limit in the program, so eventually it stopped clicking and went copying at full speed. But now it clicks again. Queer.
