Feature Ideas / Re: Which commit changed the battery running time counter reset behavior?
« Last post by DTSyX on Today at 03:17:33 AM »Thanks for the fix!
My question was intended as such and actually not as a bug report as I assumed that was the intended behavioral change... :-)
I downloaded and tested your patch locally (instead of my partial-reversion-patch). It seems like it works the same for me, but probably has the benefit of the intended changes of the 4.0 release, i.e. better than my approach.
So, thanks again!

Hardware / Re: Rockbox 4.0 can hardly be used on SSD iPod 5.5gen
« Last post by speachy on July 19, 2025, 08:43:46 PM »iPod video (5.5gen) with 128gb SSD
It frozes when selecting anything in main menu including database
Sometimes it does work but most of the time it goes black and restarts (errors happens less frequently when using dailybuild)
Did this device _ever_ work reliably? Because what you're describing sounds a lot like the storage device is damaged or defective.
The problem with folks modding their devices is that it's trivially easy to break or damage internal components (especially the ribbon cable), and that's assuming those components were of a sufficient quality to begin with. And quality can vary _very_ drastically.
The type of SSD is critically important -- CF? SATA? SD? What is the specific model of both the adapter, and the storage device plugged into it? Eg for SD-based mods, there have been numerous reports of one card having problems where another does not [1] iFlash even documents several cards that are known to not work reliably.
Meanwhile, when it comes to anything involving low-level storage on the ipods, there are no meaningful changes between the 4.0 release and the current daily builds.
[1] A few days ago, someone reported they have two ipods that differ only in the type of SD card plugged in; one works great, the other crashes constantly with much the same symptoms as you describe.

I can't reproduce your issue which I suspect is the difference between devices with and without charge monitoring
this should be in the dev builds now and should have the previous behavior
https://gerrit.rockbox.org/r/c/rockbox/+/6631
thanks for the report!

Rockbox General Discussion / Re: Dev builds release notes
« Last post by questions2000 on July 18, 2025, 05:33:53 PM »Wow this great information.
Thank you guys for sharing all of this.
When I first started coming to this website I went through many of the pages.
I most likely saw this "Recent Activity" section at the bottom of the main page but totally forgot that all of that information was there.
I know where it is now so not a benefit to me, but for future users to see this, might be a good idea to add a link to that "Recent Activity" section in the sidebar. Maybe under "Documentation" or "Development" sections in sidebar?
The link could just go to that section/location on main page so would not have to create a separate page for this information.
Anyways, thank you guys again for this information.

« Last post by sortofcedar on July 18, 2025, 04:48:00 PM »I'm thinking it was a database issue... I restarted the thing a million times, restarted it/put it in disc mode a million times, and changed database settings a million times and it seems to have fixed itself. I'm not a tech genius so I don't know exactly what was wrong but I do know the files weren't corrupted since they're playing fine now.

« Last post by saratoga on July 18, 2025, 04:31:35 PM »Usually stopping mid file means the files are corrupted and the decoder encountered a block of data that it couldn't understand.. Try copying one file that stops off of the player and then compare its md5sum to the original that was never on the player. Do they match?

Hardware / Re: *PANIC* (4.0)
« Last post by makeprop on July 18, 2025, 10:54:32 AM »I've noticed this on one of my ipod 3rd gens running 4.0. I put it down to an issue with the hardware itself because my other 3rd gen on 4.0 isn't behaving the same way. The only difference between the two are the SD cards. When I get the cahnce I was going to format the SD and run a full f3 test on it, and build the image again from scratch.
On all my 3rd gens however I'm noticing an issue with them when I connect them to USB - they immediately go into DFU mode and both my nix systems and windows systems have issues detecting them until after they boot, and they will always boot and connect to the PC in DFU mode as opposed to the usual RB audio mode, but I'll be honest and say i haven't RTFM'd yet, I worked with them as I would the 4th gens I have.
