Title: total failure
Post by: danamyx on September 22, 2020, 08:00:59 AM
I am sure somewhere this may have been covered, but alas I cannot find it.
I have a Color iPod with 160GB. Originally it was formatted for the apple iTunes. Since reading documents here, I reformatted the whole drive in fat32 on a windows machine using the freeware program recommended in the manual. When I use the Rockbox loader and select what I want to download into the iPod, it won't load the bootloader, but everything else I selected loads. I can't open anything in disc mode from the computer, and the regular iPod menu shows up allowing me to scroll through the choices, yet there is no content to open (which I expect). Should I be partitioning the drive and installing something else on a smaller partition? I have made numerous attempts at this including the reformatting of the drive 2x.

Do you have an Ipod Color or a 160gb ipod?  Those are two different things.

Also, which rockbox utility are you using?  What happens when you follow the instructions for installing rockbox with it?

The recommended tool for removing HFS from an iPod on Windows is iTunes. Is that the freeware program you used? If not, explain exactly what you did.
