Title: clickwheel games on rockbox
Post by: psxpetey on December 20, 2021, 03:00:19 PM
did clickwheel games ever work with rockbox? No idea if this was ever a thing as rockbox is mostly for music but I recently got interested in click wheel games and I have some nanos with rockbox. Ive been looking at how to get them on there but information is sparse to say the least haha.

Edit: IE Apples and other studios Ipod classic games are commonly known as clickwheel games. As they function for several gens of ipod and there are several types of ipod it becomes confusing for people. If I said: Ipod games people would assume I meant ipod touch and call me an idiot or ask me why I didnt specify.

Not sure what clickwheel games are, but essentially all the working plugins for rockbox are included with the build.

if you go in the menu section of an ipod then extras then games those are clickwheel games they are included with every ipod but usually only like solitaire and 2 others there were over 40 games but of course all licensed which apple removed even from itunes menu to even sync.

No idea why those would be "clickwheel" games. Those are games. Since the Ipod only has a clickwheel that's the input hardware to control them, but apart from that there's nothing tying them to the input method. Solitaire on my PC also doesn't depend on the input method ...

Rockbox is a complete replacement firmware. It does not run Apple's firmware, thus all stuff Apple provides with their firmware is not relevant to Rockbox. Rockbox does have a couple of games, as saratoga mentioned. You control those with the input method your player provides. In case of an Ipod it would be the clickwheel, on other players it's buttons or the like. See the manual for the games Rockbox has. The available games also depend on your player -- not all games run on all players.

I believe OP is asking whether the games that ran on Apple's OF can run on Rockbox. The answer to that is no -- they're totally incompatible with Rockbox.

I recommend "Jewels" and "Rockblox" to the OP.  I reckon those two are better than anything on the original ipod firmware.  (Though maybe those aren't on the Nano?)

Not to mention Doom and Duke Nukem (though I feel like the physical controls on the ipod just aren't really sufficient to make use of them, even though I find it an impressive accomplishment that they can be made to run on there at all).

I deleted some off topic nonsense. Please try to keep this thread on topic.
