Hardware / Re: Playing music to recent car with ipod classic/rockbox
« Last post by gomezz on Today at 05:15:20 PM »My only experience of modern vehicles are the Mercedes work vans and they offer to connect either with straight Bluetooth or using Android Auto or Apple Carplay(?). Perhaps a careful read of the user manual for the car radio may offer a pointer in this direction?Have you checked the BT adaptor is set to transmitter mode?
Of course, it works with a BT headphone. It's just that cars now are phone oriented, and obviously simple BT transmitters do not provide all the handshake the car is waiting for.
(my own car has an older simple Bluetooth radio that predates modern ICE systems)

Rockbox Utility / Re: Unable to install Lockbox utility on iPod Classic 5g
« Last post by ctr1010 on Today at 02:09:35 PM »I correct myself. Actually Rockbox installation on Windows works. I installed Rockbox on VM windows. So when connecting iPod, the iPod screen shows image of usb connector. I did not see the prompt screen behind another window that select connection to windows. The really issue is when connecting to Mac. All I get is Do not disconnect with red circle and a cross bar on iPod. I could not figure out what's seems to be the issue.

Other - Installation/Removal / [Solved] Surfans F20 "stock firmware image"
« Last post by Polarigel on Today at 10:39:18 AM »I managed to install a hosted port on my Surfans F20 with the firmware version 2.7. Finding out how to do it took some time. Maybe posting this will help the next one with the same problem.
1. I couldn't find any stock software. Therefore I could not use the Rockbox utility to install Rockbox. It had to be a manual install.
2. For that I used
3. I connected the Surfans to my computer. It is recognized as a USB-storage unit.
4. I renamed the file F20-v27-patched.upt to update.upt and copied it into the root directory of the Surfans F20
5. I unzipped the Rockbox file. It contains a folder named .rockbox. I copied this folder (not its contents!) into the root directory of the Surfans F20
5. I ejected the Surfans F20 and booted it. I made a firmware update (System Settings - Firmware Update- "Please confirm whether the firmware is updated" -YES). Now Rockbox is installed.
6. After rebooting the F20 I got a boot menu with Rockbox, original firmware and tools. Rockbox booted without any problem, and could be used.
7. Now the Surfans F20 cooperates with the Rockbox Utility. It's possible to install new builds, themes and fonts.
8. For now there is no Rockbox Manual for the Surfans F20. I used the manual for AGPtek Rocker to understand the settings.

2. For that I used
- the latest Rockbox development build for AIGO EROS Q/K (https://www.rockbox.org/daily.shtml)
- the prepatched image for my player and firmware version, downloaded from https://www.rockbox.org/wiki/AIGOErosQK (https://download.rockbox.org/bootloader/surfans/F20-v27-patched.upt)

User Interface and Voice / Short vs. Long Down press (recent change in behavior)
« Last post by eugenkss on Today at 05:55:57 AM »Before 2023-05-24, a short Down press in WPS executed a configurable Hotkey, and a long Down press opened the Playlist.
The "Hotkey" could (and still can) be configured to not do anything at all.
I found this very convenient, that by Short Down pressing I could simply activate the display (i.e. to have a look at the time, etc) and reset the Sleep Timer, without any other effect (i.e. the player stayed on the WPS).
Now since 2023-05-25, with commit https://git.rockbox.org/cgit/rockbox.git/commit/?id=f2a5b78b51 the Short Down and Long Down functions were swapped.
I am very much used to the old behavior and find it very distracting and inconvenient that now a Long Down press is required to simply activate the display and/or reset the Sleep Timer.
Of course, I understand, everybody has different expectations and use cases. "Each to his own" :-)
Any chance this at least could be made a configurable setting, which of the two (Short vs. Long Down press) executes the Hotkey and which one opens the Playlist, please?

« Last post by ctr1010 on May 30, 2023, 10:22:05 PM »I think that should be ok. What happened when you tried?
I got the error message " could not find device name". I am trying to one more time.
Just completed second try. still no prompt for name. after iPod reboot,, iTunes opened up with Welcome to Your new iPod. option with continue or cancel. last time I clicked continue and disconnect iPod. then install rockbox on Mac. this time I am going to click cancel then try rockbox installation on Mac. will post result soon.
I was able to install the main rockbox firmware but not the bootloader. When bootloader is checked, it failed with could not find device name. When iPod is connected to Mac, it still shows Do not disconnect with red circle and cross bar. waiting for your input. thanks.
Fyi, I did installation experiments on Windows. I was able to install both bootloader and Rockbox firmware. Rockbox works when disconnect from computer. But when connecting to computer, the screen show did show an image of usb connector, and nothing worked. I will wait if you have any solution. I restore iPod on Mac and sync music files to enjoy listening for time being. Thanks for all your help.
