Title: recording thru line-in
Post by: user on July 14, 2006, 01:42:36 PM
I want to record a live event thru a 3.5mm cable from the str out of a mixer.
I just noticed that the file is set as a mono wav.
Is there a way to change that to stereo?
Also, is there a file size limit? It will be about 2 hours.
Lastly, if either there is a limit or it can only be mono, will iriver's firmware be better in this case? (such as mp3, in terms of how much I can record, not in terms of quality. I'd rather have something that is hardly a "low quality" than something that is high quality but with a break in the middle of it)

Thanks

I think this will answer your questions:  http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IriverFAQ#Does_recording_in_Rockbox_have_t

errr... where does it say 'mono'?

Rockbox records in stereo (through line-in and optical) and saves stereo WAV files, it automatically splits (without dropping a single sample) into multiple files if the 2GB limit is reached.

If you have a version that records mono, please post it as it's an unimplemented feature that's been requested here ;)

There's an option under info --> debug to turn on screen dump.  Once it's on, any time you insert the USB cable it will do a screen dump instead of connecting to USB.

That particular function should probably be moved somewhere else, like perhaps the General Settings --> Display menu.

Heh, this is funny...

The irivers only record stereo atm, and have no setting for that in the recording settings screen. The option however still exists in the settings struct, and is used to write that text on the screen. The default value (0) means stereo.

So somehow the settings of user got changed/bad, causing it to display mono.

The value is not used however, recording is always done in stereo.

Tip for user: reset your settings (hold rec just before rockbox boots, it will say 'settings cleared')

Also, maybe update your build to the 20060803 REP build.
That's a solid build for recording AFAIK.

is there anyway of making just the recording screen text heaps massive instead of having it really small so its all easier to read

and also a bigger and labeled DB meter

and prehaps scrolling input waveform ??

ummm..yeah..use the REP.... ???

what is REP and where can i find it??

i know that u can use the oscilliator to veiw waveform but not whislt recording ??

how can i make the recording screen txt bigger without effecting my theme text size ?

also how do i install Automatic Gain Control
