I will be in Hamburg Dec. 1st through the 15th.
If anyone wants to get together for drinks...
(I'll have a car, and am willing to drive.)
See below.
-
Presumably then, it will be the others doing most of the drinking, and not you?
;)
-
One would certainly hope so...
I don't want to see German headlines to the effect of "Rogue Rockboxer Responsible for Road Deaths" (Alliteration all my own work there - I could be a journalist you know) :P
-
Ok, now they're sending me to Heidelberg.
-
Not to be a sour sport or anything but, this isn't really rockbox related :P
-
Actually it is. We have many European devs and "staff" (experts, people who regularly contribute via bug reports, testing, etc) who never see the ones on the American continents, or vice versa. Having them try to arrange meetups when one's going to be in the neck of the woods traditionally haunted by the others helps everyone get to know each other better. As well, some topics are just better suited to discussing in person (helps reduce the chance of misunderstanding).
So while it's not strictly apparently Rockbox related, it's definitely beneficial for users and devs to meet up. In fact, any attempt to organize social or strictly-usiness Rockbox user gatherings is Rockbox related. Other examples would be, say, the DevCons, but also more casual things like local gatherings of Rockbox users (like LUGs but on a clearly much smaller and simpler scale).
-
Alright I understand now. I was just going by the topic.
-
RUGs.
-
Hey, we can make a wiki for RUGs around the globe! :)
Combine that with a "Tower of Rockbox" wiki page, where people can post pictures of their best Towers!
-
Let me spice this up by offering to send over some Rockbox t-shirts if you manage to get three or more people planned for meeting on the same spot!
-
Awesome. I've always wanted a rockbox t-shirt. I'm like the only one in my state that is active on these forums though sadly or were you refering to only soap?
-
No, I'll send them for all and any of you who manage to gather in Germany, of course somewhat limited to the amount of shirts and goods I actually have.
But I wanted it to be at least three people so that it can actually count as a "gathering" ;-)
-
Aw, we used to have three Rockbox users here in my office :-)
Not any more though. We will at Christmas when I (H320) my wife (H120) and my brother (H340) are together, I just need to persuade my nephew to Rockbox his Nano and we'll have three different players...

It might be possible in Karlsruhe.
soap, if you have time to visit Karlsruhe during your stay (which is a nice city, by the way :) ), you could meet with Bluebrother and me. That's critical mass already! Maybe others are from this area, too.
-
I would happly accept one German Beer...
Here in brazil they taste like water...
I just love the original beers :)
Cheers!

Should be able to do it on the 8th or 9th, really could do that most any night after the second as it is only a half hour away.

Don't forget that we want to see your Tower of Rockbox. :)
For everyone else: Got some Tower pics on hand? Here's a place for them:

Or someone could navigate to the devcon pages ( www.rockbox.org/devcon2006 www.rockbox.org/devcon2007 www.rockbox.org/devconwest2007 ), and update the page for those of us who are lazy ;)

I'd love to, scorche, but some of the images on the pages seem to be 404'd.
I have a pic of one of the Towers from markun's visit at home, so I'll post it later on tonight.
(And now, we return you to our regularly scheduled program already in progress... ;))
-
The devconwest2007 link is mine, so let me know if any of those are 404s...otherwise talk to Bagder ;)
-
Karlsruhe sounds perfect! Maybe I'll also come around, if you give a date, time and place 8-)

Sorry to disappoint you but I recently moved to Braunschweig -- so it's about 500 km to Karlsruhe. As I'm still lacking internet at home I haven't updated my profile yet ... (but I'm planning to visit Karlsruhe a few days before christmas -- just need to check the time first)
Edit: ok, this is scratching my itch and I'd really like to come. As I have a 4 hour travel to Karlsruhe I could make it on the 8th only -- but as I still know a bunch of people in Karlsruhe it shouldn't be hard to arrange this short term. I would propose meeting at Der Vogel (http://www.vogelbraeu.de/), a local brewery in Karlsruhe. People coming by car could park at the university place which is rather near (a couple of minutes walk). We should book a table prior. I'd suggest meeding around 7pm.
Any comments? Who is planning to join definitely?
-
The plan sounds good. I just landed earlier today (Sunday) and won't be able to speak with 100% confidence until Wednesday - but I should be able to do most anything on Saturaday the 8th.

This seems like a reasonable plan to me. I haven't been to Der Vogel yet, but it is in a nice bike-distance from my home. I definitely plan to come.
-
A pitty. Saturday, 8th, is the first Saturday since months I am not available :(
-
Wednesday is here and I can say with confidence 7pm on Saturday the 8th @ Vogelbrau works for me.
Buschel - how far are you from Heidelberg? Perhaps some other night?
Rincewind - status update from you?
Domonoky - status update from you?
-
Hey, I can't come on 8th but if anyone will ever be near Saarbuecken then tell me.
-
hi,
I would really like to come, but its a bit far me for a bar evening.. (i would have to travel 2.5 hours by train to karlsruhe, could only attend for an hour, then train back, again 2.5 hours..)
so i dont think i can attend..
-
I am about 60km from Heidelberg -- so same difference than to Karlsruhe, and same direction :o)

Maybe Rincewind has an idea how to accomodate you? I'll stay until sunday so we could do some sight-seeing in Karlsruhe ;-) (but I still need to organize an accomodation for myself as my first one didn't work ... so I can't help you with that atm, unfortunately)

I live in a studentenwohnheim, it is possible to accomodate you, if you don't mind sleeping in a 12m² room with me. I have a spare mattrass I can put on my floor. You would have to bring a sleeping bag.
-
Between Rincewind and I there will be seven construction blocks for the tower. Don't forget your's bluebrother!
-
So i will take rincewinds offer, and also bring a construction block :-)
