Title: Gigabeat not saving settings anymore
Post by: xtremedrummer498 on July 13, 2007, 11:53:29 PM
I have a Gigabeat F40 and hated it when I got it. A friend of mine told me to get Rockbox, yada yada I downloaded it and LOVED it. Rockbox worked just fine for me for months, up until yesterday. All of a sudden Rockbox won't save my settings. Every time I turn it on, the default settings are there as if I had just installed Rockbox. I tried loading it up with the current build, and I am still running into the same problems. . . someone please help me to make my Rockbox work, it would be a shame to have to go back to the original firmware.

You're not flicking the hold switch to "on" as soon as you power it up by any chance are you ?

I believe it would be holding the 'A' button that would have the effect of defaulting the settings while booting, which isn't too hard to press accidentally.

No, I'm not flicking the battery switch or pressing the A button. My Gigabeat saves the time, but that's about it. Every other setting goes back to default.

Try saving the settings again (obviously with some changes!) before shutting down again. It may just be a corrupted config file.

If that fails, try a new build, or re-install your original.

I'm changing the theme before I shut it down because this is the easiest change to see when I start the player up again. . . sometimes it saves and sometimes it doesn't. How do I fix a corrupted .config file?

Perhaps I should have said this first:

Go into the Manage settings screen and do a Reset Settings from there. That may fix corruption. If not:

Go into the .rockbox folder, delete config.cfg, fixed.cfg (if it exists) and any of your saved .cfg files.

Shutdown fully and restart and you should be back to clean default settings

Thanks! I deleted the old .cfg files and now everything works perfect.
