Title: iRiver H10 slow & barely responsive when playing music
Post by: richardm001 on December 29, 2006, 05:11:11 PM
Just installed Rockbox for the first time - kudos to the many constributers on a fine idea for open source software!

When I'm listening to any music on my iRiver H10 (20GB) the menus are very slow and barely responsive. My suspicion is that the player has gone CPU-bound. I'm running with all of the default settings.

Could anyone advise as to how I might get it running more quickly, otherwise I'm going to have to switch back to the original firmware.

Thanks in advance.

[edit: I'm using the rockbox-h10-20061227.zip firmware... if someone with an H10 can recommend an older version which performs better I'd be very grateful!]

The h10 build isn't really optimized of what i've understood... Run it without software eq and without peak meters in the wps... That could give you enough cycles.

Thanks. After a lot more digging around (this site really could do with a prominent site map link on the home page!) I've figured out that the iRiver H10 port is a work-in-progress. Also, most of my music is WMA and won't play back right now...

Shame... I've already switched back to the old firmware. Will just have to live with the known bug that the H10 sometimes won't power up the backlight, and deal with the fact that making any change to the graphic equalizer only manages to achieve removing the mid-range sound! :'(

Thank you Dave Chapman (I think!)... just downloaded 20070102 and the performance is vastly improved. The menus are now responsive while playing music and I can even use plugins at the same time. Now, if only my WMAs would play back... ;-)
