Title: Support for remote control with a Sansa on Rockbox
Post by: ToneDeF on November 06, 2007, 10:49:04 PM
Q. Do the Sansa dock and remote control work?
A. Right now Rockbox does not communicate over the serial/dock or remote port. Because of this, any accessory, such as a remote or stereo mount, that can actually control playback on the Sansa will not work.

I have a Sansa accessoriy  that works with a remote control (the Timex alarm clock radio built for Sansa).  Is there any way that I can help the Rockbox developers reverse engineer the serial protocol used by remote controls to control the Sansa (e.g. by fiddling with the remote control in an organized way while Rockbox is dumping to a logf file the data packets being sent over the serial port)?

While reverse engineering the serial protocol is important, the bigger issue is figuring out how to use the serial port on the PP players.  Until someone does that, its not even possible to implement the serial protocols we know about (some ipods).
