Can't say for sure how the OF is handling switching between hp and lo, but we make the lo the default and rely on the low impedance of the headphones themselves to help detect them. (this is a consequence of how they wired up the hardware). They must be doing some trick that I'm not aware of.

That was it. I was using a 1/8 stereo to dual RCA adapter to run the player into a Grado headphone amp to drive the 'phones. With that setup there was no output from the headphone jack and distorted output from the line out. I tried two different cables with the same result, so it wasn't the cable. When I plugged the 'phones directly into the headphone jack (its an old Grado SR80, so 8 ohms), it worked correctly with good output. Same when I plugged the 'phones directly into the line out (just louder). I still don't understand why the stock firmware had no problem driving the amp cleanly from either output jack, but Rockbox does. Maybe there is something funky with the input impedance of the amp? It seems the headphone output from the player is plenty strong to drive the 'phones, so guess I don't really need the amp (it just pains me to have a nice piece of kit like that and not use it ).
For reference, I didn't do any custom settings yet, other than loading a couple of themes and changing font sizes. To answer your other question: View HW Info --> Audio gives:
TX underruns: 0
(1) ES9018K2M HWVOL
I'll play with the stereo switch mode later and see if it has any effect. Thanks!

« Last post by dconrad on Today at 07:24:59 PM »I've been using a specific test build for the past month or so so I went ahead and downloaded the latest daily build and it works as expected on my device (hw2). And I don't think there have been any changes recently to the audio path of these players or to rockbox's handling of the audio path.
What do you see when you go to System --> Debug --> View HW Info --> Audio?
And have you turned on any DSP settings, EQ, anything like that?
You could also play with the output switch's behavior if you want at Settings --> Sound Settings --> Stereo Switch Mode and see what happens.

Attached is the sniff file for the OF. It didn't have a filename extension and wouldn't upload without one so I appended .txt to it. I will do the same with the sniff file for RB in an immediately following post. Please let me know if you get what you are needing/wanting.

Regarding the line out distortion... not sure. I'll have to think about it for a minute.
Edit: another sanity check... Have you tried various cables and devices? sometimes "tinny and flat" can be because the plug isn't inserted all the way and the channels are shorted together or the ground is floating, etc. If it happens with multiple devices that points a finger towards the player, but of all the problems we've had the audio quality has been largely solid.

« Last post by tobiasj on Today at 04:43:56 PM »Hi Milandro,
thanks a lot!!!!!!!
I worked out. Exactly like you said. I wouldn't have come up to this kind of hack by myself.
However I am wondering why this does not work when manually mounting the device with jmtpfs. Maybe jmtpfs handles this device still as a mtp-fs and rockbox or more exactly scsitools cannot handle mtp-devices but needs a plain storage device.
Thanks again for your efforts!
Best Regards
Tobias

« Last post by Milardo on Today at 01:22:08 PM »Hi Milandro,
I get only one volume when I plug the mp3-player, but never the /dev/...
Attached a screenshot.
I am not sure if testing this on slightly different OS versions will have any change on the mounting...
Best Regards
Tobias
Hi Tobias,
I installed ubuntu 22 and I too only got one volume- mtp
After some research, i found this:
In terminal type and enter:
sudo chmod a-x /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-mtp
Then connect your player and mount it should be something like media/username/WALKMAN
You can drag and drop the bootloader file after renaming it NW_WM_FW.UPG into your player root directory.
Make sure you also have the unzipped .rockbox directory in there as well.
Then type and enter to find /dev location of your player:
lsblk
then update firmware like below make sure to type your correct /dev location mine was sda1:
Navigate to the directory where scsitool is.
Also make sure the scsitool is made executable before entering the below:
sudo ./scsitool_64-nwz-v27 /dev/sda1 do_fw_upgrade
check your player to see if it upgrades with rockbox bootloader.
Then once that is done and you have disconnected your player you can type and enter this to restore MTP in ubuntu
sudo chmod a+x /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-mtp
I have attached some screenshots for reference.

Let me know if it works for you.

Hardware / Re: AIGO EROS Q / AIGO EROS K / IRULU Surfans F20 / AGPTek H3 / HIFI WALKER H2
« Last post by doghonk on Today at 11:48:32 AM »I'm having an issue with a new native install on a Surfans F20 I just bought. The player came with firmware 3.1 and I updated that to 3.3 using the OEM firmware dion linked to on 08/30 (copying it to the SD card and using the OEM firmware update utility) before doing anything else. After that succeeded, I downloaded the Rockbox nightly build from 11/02 and extracted that to the SD card. I then manually updated again using the erosqnative-hw3-erosq.upt linked on the wiki (again, by renaming it, copying it to the SD card, and using the built-in update utility).
The player boots into Rockbox fine and all the controls work. The problems are: (1) there is zero output from the headphone jack regardless of volume setting; and (2) the output from line out is strong, but distorted ("tinny and flat" is a better description). If I boot it into the OEM firmware, both outputs work and the sound quality is fine. For reference, I'm not using the original SD card that came with the player but a 256GB MicroCenter house brand partitioned and formatted to FAT32 with gparted. Any ideas on whats causing this?
