Title: Patched hex makes no difference
Post by: quinnray on October 04, 2006, 08:12:14 AM
Hi guys,

I'm installing rockbox on my iriver iHP-120 for the first time
I followed the instructions to no avail.
When I patch the hex, it seems sucessful, but when
I upgrade firmware with the new hex it still
boots iriver firmware.
The firmware version has changed with the new hex, but
I can't get rockbox to run.

Any ideas ?

Thanks,
Ray.

have you installed Rockbox or only the bootloader? If Rockbox isn't found the bootloader goes straightly into the OF.

Thanks for the reply..

I've installed rockbox..
The .rockbox folder is there
and the rockbox.iriver fils is there..
The spash screen on startup is still iriver, I thought this was supposed to change to rockbox ?

does it say something like "Rockbox bootloader" upon startup? If not the flashed file doesn't contain the bootloader, meaning patching failed.

Nope, it shows the iriver logo at startup,
just as normal..
I guess I'll try re-patching on another machine..

BTW: My play button is broken on my player so I have to use reset to turn it on..
Could this be affecting things ?

Yes. The bootloader powers off if the Play button isn't depressed when booting. The following reset will start the iriver firmware immediately, since Rockbox assumes that the previous poweroff was because of a bootloader failure. It is a safety measure.
