Title: USB Charging
Post by: blinkidiot@shroomery.org on August 24, 2006, 10:21:06 PM
I'm wondering if this is enabled in any way.

I don't have the charger cable for my iriver and have been using the USB charge method for the past year or so.

Thanks!

This is not an "Installation" question.

You can use the iRiver fw's charging capabililties at any time. While you insert the USB cable (with player off) hold the Rec button and it should boot into USB charging (if enabled from the iRiver fw).
Rockbox can charge through USB too but it doesn't control the charging and leaves it up to the hardware, if I remember correctly. There should be no problem but sick to the OF if you have any worries.

If you're able to compile your own version, there's a patch in the tracker that enables USB charging control. It's supposed to be stable, but for some dark reason hasn't made it into the official builds yet.

The dark reason that this patch hasn't made it to the CVS yet, is that it always try to charge even when the player is connected on unpowered hubs, or any other USB host that doesn't give more than 100mA.

I remember reading in the mailing lists that Matthias Mohr fixed that problem so I guess it's a matter of time... (?)
