Title: Ok, now I am really confused!
Post by: irishroze on July 03, 2006, 12:13:16 AM
I started from scratch, followed the directions to a T, and the H320 actually updated the firmware this time!!! YEAH! ;D

But now, the only difference I see is when I turn it on, the iriver load screen says (at the bottom) VER 1.29J loading (used to be 1.02US) and a few of my menu's look different.  The manual says that once I upgrade the firmware and turn it back on I should see a "Rockbox splash screen" and that would mean that rockbox is loaded and ready to use.  Well, I am not sure, but the only thing that I see is my normal WPS.  When should I see this "splash screen"?  Did I do something else wrong?  Did I miss something?  ???

The new files on my root directory read as follows: rockbox.iriver; H300.hex; and a file called .rockbox with a bunch of other files in it that was automatically created when I downloaded the other stuff.  Is this right?  Am I missing something?

Any help or information would be really appreciated!
Thanks,
~irishroze

If you've installed Rockbox correctly, the first thing you will see is a screen with nothing but text that says something along the lines of "Rockbox bootloader v.5" followed by some additional technical information.  That should be followed after a few seconds by a screen with a yellow Rockbox logo.  Unless you manually boot into the iriver firmware by holding the record button as you boot, you should never see the screen that says "loading 1.29j."

Based on your description, it sounds like the firmware upgrade that you installed did not include the Rockbox bootloader.  Did you patch the h300.hex file with the fwpatcher.exe tool?  If so, did you get the message "Patch successful"?

It sounds like you successfully installed a Rockbox build, but that is only half of the installation process.  My guess is that you still need to patch and install the Rockbox bootloader.

Thanks, I think that I did that already, and I did receive that "patch successful" message, but would it hurt anything if I did it again?

Well, I went thru it again, but I am still getting the same result...I made sure that I had the patch done successfully too.  Any ideas on what I am STILL doing wrong? :(

Try renaming the patched firmware .hex file from H300.hex to h300.hex. Or was it the other way around. It's kinda a strange thing, but it's worked for some people. Rename it, and then tell the iRiver firmware to do an update again.
