Title: Viewsonic dpx1002wd
Post by: sbrogan on January 02, 2009, 04:43:38 PM
Anyone interested in porting to a digital picture frame with sound capabilities?
I think this would be a great use of Rockbox.  The firmware on the Viewsonic is poor but the LCD is great and the frame can usually be found for 100 bucks online.

This is just a feeler.  I am just wondering if there would be people interested enough to help with the port.  I have never ported rockbox but I do embedded development as a career; so hopefully I could get up to speed reasonably quick  :)

If there is interest I'll try to lookup the hardware.

Please read the NewPort (http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/NewPort) wiki and try to figure out the basic informations about your device. Maybe there are some components similar to other players.

I read the new port wiki page and found it useful.

I was trying to do one of the steps listed on the page

From the new port Wiki --

Quote
Who will help you?
First, don't ask Rockbox developers when they are going to port Rockbox to your platform. Ports are made by people who want to port, they are not done on request.

Then, assume that only actual owners of the target devices will be involved and interested enough to actually contribute to the down-to-metal porting. Nobody can port Rockbox to a device he/she doesn't have.

Porting Rockbox can be everything from hard work to extremely hard and time consuming work. Try to gather as many interested friends and fans as possible so that the whole burden isn't put on one single human.

The Rockbox developers can and will try to help out with development, advice, hints and other general things, but only as much as they can and if they have the time.

So my original post was just to see if anyone else had the device or was interested enough in the idea to help.

I don't really want to take it apart (void warranty) or spend too much time on it if no one else is interested.
Thanks

Well no one here is going to be interested, but that doesn't mean that people elsewhere might not be interested.  Generally one starts a port, posts about it on boards where other people who actually own the device are, and goes from there.
