Slant
It's now 95% complete. I won't have much time to finish it over the last couple of days therefore I've released it now. There's only really the IconSet I need to create, but i've used it for the last hour and i'd say it my favourite theme i've made :D

I think it looks very cool! My only suggestion would be to make that blue a few shades darker. In my opinion it doesnt blend with the grey so well as a lighter color!
-
Thanks, ye I thought that myself, it's still nowhere near finished yet. Gonna work on it on Monday. :D
124 Views and only 1 reply? lol, it must be bad.

lemme remedy that ;)
lookin good so far, any plans for a background image? if not, hold on a bit, just noticed there IS a background image maybe it's just my monitor. Anyway, I do enjoy the unified design with the slanted lines, very nice design with the clock, batt and vol icons.
May I suggest a bigger font? there's a lot of unused real estate in this theme; what happens when there's no AA? is everything centered or is there a nifty no art image? Oh, and how about a track time display? You could shrink the progress bar a bit and put the current time on the left, and the remaining or total on the right.
hope those are received well, glad to hear you're including an HDD icon, but I don't get what you mean about play order, you already have a 1/12 in there. Good luck finishing this off, I will definitely be keeping an eye out for it.
-
Very clean & simple! Excellent work Senab.
I'm guessing the icons at the top are going to be glowing like the play icon?
-
Thanks for the comments, I'll be finishing this off today. The font is just a mock up font, I think i'll be using Nimbus or SegoeUI, haven't decided yet.
By play order, I mean shuffle, repeat etc. And yes, the icons at the top will be glowing when active :D
-
I like it a lot. At last some minimalist rockbox themes
-
I meant to have it finished by now (i've compiled my sim and everything), just been really busy over the last couple of days. I'm hoping i'll have it done by Friday. :)

Any chance of a non patched version of this? Looks very good.
-
I'll see what I can do ;)
-
I can see the WPS forum's are very talkative these days... ::)
Just to let you know, it's now been added to rockbox-themes.org

Wow -- Can I just say I absolutely love this theme... and in my opinion this would make an utterly awesome default theme for rockbox as it shows everything that rockbox can do really.. in a simple and proffessional manner...
I have just recently set up Rockbox for 8 people.. and added this theme to all of there selections (as well as 10-11 others) and this is the one ALL of them chose after i returned it to them (I left it on the default theme...)..
-

How are you going to make it work on Black and White and charcell display players ?
-
Charcell can be mostly ignored, but black and white is important. Charcell's default is going to be vastly different than anything else anyway, being two lines of text only. ;)
-
Just want to say this is the best theme i have seen in a long time (even better than mines :P). I just made a few chanes especially because the battery status is not correct while plugged in. It might not be the default theme, but i think the layout of this theme is one of the easiest to the eyes and the most usable currently.
As a conclusion i just love it... :D
-
There are a couple of things not quite right with the theme (i'm going to fix them tomorrow). Regarding how i'm going to do this for B&W screens: i'm not quite sure. I'm planning on converting for other colour target's first (starting with the gigabeat)
:D

The "How are you going to do this for B&W screens" comment wasn't really directed at you Senab ;) It was a comment on making this the Rockbox default theme. I'm still waiting for a version that works without any album art patches :)

No worries, I don't want to make two seperate themes to maintain and am looking at my metadata tags to make it work fine for both AA and none-AA. It will be sorted in my next release this week :)
To be honest, after thinking about it, I don't think this theme would suit B&W screens. I will have another look when i've done the colour targets though.
-
I modified this great theme to make a 150x150 art version.
(http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/1264/rockboxxf4.th.png) (http://img244.imageshack.us/my.php?image=rockboxxf4.png)
Yet i have two little problems. First the progress bar is flcikering when the song starts. And secondely, in this version the volume text doesnt update when i use the wheel (which doesnt happend with the original theme )
Can someone help me?

@carmenm:
The reason the volume display (and all text in that line) doesn't update is because it's in a scrolling margin. No text updates within a scrolling margin.
Try this instead:

(you may have to mess around with the spaces to make it align right, just copy the line from the original WPS file again)
Regarding the Album Art and the progress bar, it's basically just how it is. There's nothing you can do to change this behaviour, it's a bug (not sure what in though tbh).
I've recently been away from my laptop, but i'll be home again tomorrow so i'm going to update the WPS and get the metadata handling to my liking. After that i'll probably start porting to other platforms. Any preference's which one I should do first?
-
very good theme senab u rock but i thing a good theme idea would be a metroid prime themes it would be cool and(i know is out of topic) but were do you go to learn how to make themes?
kett rocking hard senab. ;D

Ok what you gave didnt seem to work, i dont realy know why. Works great on the simulator but when using it on my ipod, when playing a song the first second everything s ok but after the line for the time, battery ... realign itself to x=156 just like it didnt use the last %m.
But what you told me gave me the solution, i dont need %s on that line and on the one for the track time(and i think you dont either), so i got rid of it while keeping the %m and now everything s ok. Thanks for your help senab.

Update
I've now made the WPS check for Album Art, if there is none then it center's all the text. I'm still looking at what extra info to add to the screen.

I really like this theme. I tried to modify it to show "next" playing song artist and title information instead of the filename and encoding details, but I experienced the same thing carmenm did. Everything would shift over. I played around with the spacing of the bottom lines a bunch but never could get it right. Any ideas? Here's the last 13 lines of the file where I made my change.

Sorry about the late reply, i've been on holiday for the last week ;D
Regarding the WPS, i actually have made quite a few changes to it, but haven't uploaded it yet because of the holiday. It's much improved and the layout is far far better. I haven't put in the next song info in it yet, but i'll do it before i upload the new version, probably tomorrow.

Update
Big new update, the text has now been overhauled and is perfect for me. I know some people want next track info but it shouldn't be too hard to add (i don't really need it myself).

Great work. I actually did decide to add the Next data to my display. I replaced the line with the album year and Genre with the next track info. Here's a diff for anyone who's interested. All this means is that I replaced line 52 in slant.wps

senab, I love your work and would love it if you did a standard build version for nano. please reply or tell me how i could do it myself, would it be hard? What would be the method?
-
There's no "easy" way to port themes to be honest. The trouble with this theme is that the info bar at the bottom takes up a lot of space, therefore it would only look good on a player with a large resolution. I'll give it a try though...
-
Beautiful theme! Do you have any plans to release multiple color schemes?
-
Just finished a port of the Slant theme for the Gigabeat (240x320x16).
Thank you Chris for an awesome theme. I had to rework it for my Gigabeat.
Other than moving the layout of the bottom icons a little, the only addition is a Next Playing line.
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/WpsGigabeatF#Slant_for_Gigabeat
-
Wow! It looks great. Just a problem, could you port it to gigabeat that use a not patched build? (oh the sentence... Lol, I'm a French, you know...)
-
I can take a look at a standard build version, but it might be awhile before I get to it.
In the meantime if you want, I have my build with Album Art and Scrolling Margins for Gigabeat available at http://www.box.net/shared/xprxilo434 or http://dmurr.blogspot.com/
That build is with the 7/30/2007 SVN and the following patches: Album Art, Bitmap resize and the Scrolling Margins.
There are other unsupported builds for Gigabeat in another thread in the forum too.
Senab coded the original slant to center the text if there is no Album Art. That is still in the GB version.
-
Thanks for the port ;)
I may actually rework it myself as I had some ideas for the Gigabeat port.
-
An ipod nano version for standard builds is now available! Rejoice!

I made a port for the e200 series just a few days after you made yours Senab, Brilliant theme!!
